My Great-Great-Grandmother was Mary (DeForest) Hoyt. Everyone knew her as Polly Hoyt. George Hoyt ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
I honestly never heard the name Polly used for Mary.....only for Elizabeth.....Molly either for that matter. Mary was always Mame or Mamie. I think it depended on the country of origin of the family. When I was growing up I knew several Jewish women named Molly and it wasn't a pet name for Mary. Mamie was an Irish pet name. Then there was Dolly for Dolores.....Polly, Molly and Dolly.
