Thanks, June, for that very helpful email from David Crider. Earlier in the discussion, someone wrote that they had ordered eight "marriage certificates" for $2 each. Are they really marriage certificates? If so, does anyone know how to find them on the LDS site? Cliff
Dear Cliff, I think it was me who wrote in about ordering 8 marriage certificates and yes they are real (copies) of the marriage certificate. This is what I did, first have to get the certificate number. I found them on http://www.italiangen.org/databaselist.stm and http://www.germangenealogygroup.com/otherdb.stm and http://www.stevemorse.org/ In their VITAL records section. You copy all the information you find (names, date, where it took place & certificate number). Then you go to the LDS site http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp This is the section I used as my family all were in NY http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=localityhitlist&columns=*%2C0%2C0&PLACE=New+York&PARTOF=New+York&prePLACE=New+York&prePARTOF=New+York Go to the borough that you are interested in & look under vital records - NOT - indexes. Click on marriage certificates or death certificates & etc. Click on upper right hand corner - View Film Notes. Scroll & check for your date & where your certificate number you got from the sites above, fits in & then it's the FHL number on the far right that you have to use to send out to the FHC on that "Request for Photocopies" form. For $2.00 you can't miss - it's worth taking the chance to see if they are yours or not. Out of the 8 I sent for - 4 were my family - 1, I put in the wrong certificate number in - 3 I don't think are mine, but waiting to find more proof. I wish you good luck, Cliff. If I could help you more just ask (like I did to others, as I was scared not knowing "how" to do it - but with the list help, it turned out easy). June :-)
