    3. You can search the deed index for Westchester County online, back to the old deeds. http://ccpv.westchesterclerk.com/ Choose public Access. It only works with Internet Explorer, not Firefox. Chose Index books. Enter a few letters of the last name. Choose Grantor or Grantee. Choose a time range. Before 1898, there is no use to choose a town because they are all lumped together. Click search. For 1670 to 1898, yu will get all the images with deeds for grantors or grantees beginning with that letter. They are not in order! They are in order by Filename, which will be like 1000M1, 1000M2, for the M's. You have to guess and use trial and error to find the one you need. When you click on an Image, and one or more files comes up in another window, click open. Once it opens in Windows Photo Viewer, you can navigate through the pages in that image file using the page numbers in the toolbar at the bottom of the page. They will send you the actual deed copies, once you find the index reference, for a nominal amount. http://www.westchesterclerk.com/sections.asp?mu_step=004 Holly East Bangor, PA >-----Original Message----- >From: nywestch-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nywestch-bounces@rootsweb.com] >On Behalf Of Benita Gross >Sent: Tuesday, July 17, 2007 5:47 PM >To: nywestch@rootsweb.com >Subject: [NYWESTCH] a question from a newbie on this list > >Hi all, >I live in New Rochelle and found this list by way of >searching for information about my house. >I am impressed with the resourcefullness of the folks >on this list, and your attention to detail. >I am also surprised by the dead ends these historical >searches can lead one to - for instance, the NEw >Rochelle Historical Society listed on the NYGenWeb - >the phone is disconnected and web search doesn't find >any other contact info for them. >So, I am asking for some suggestions regarding the >original construction of my house - where besides the >building dept and the title search might I look for >info? 3. Very nice, Holly. Thanks so much. In all my years of Westchester research I didn't know those were online. My only problem when I got to images was that I needed to unblock my Pop UP blocker because I usually have it enabled so as not to get ads constantly. After I unblocked , it worked like a charm.
