Dear Friends, The De Lancey Cooper House is up for sale! For the past may years, there were threats to raze it as well as fund raising efforts to maintain it as an historical place. "MAMARONECK - The oldest large home in Mamoroneck is up for sale. Built in 1792, the Delancey Cooper House has been a fixture in the community on West Boston Post Road for 223 years. Author James Fenimore Cooper lived and wrote his first novel, "The Spy," there. There is now a restaurant on the first floor and two apartments up above. A developer has offered $3 million for the property, but the current owners, three siblings who grew up there, are willing to take $2.5 million in order to make sure the historic house is not destroyed or moved. The Mamaroneck Historical Society is looking to make the garage, which was once the barn, into a museum, but they need donors to purchase the home.
