I am descended from the Connecticut line of Thomas Staples, one of the founders of Fairfield CT in the mid 1600's. I have been trying to connect the following people with my Staples ancestry. John Staples lived in New Rochelle and New York City in 1790-1807 time frame. He was married to Amy Purdy. Children were Elizabeth, Dorothy, Anthony, Isabella and William J. William J married Hannah Wright. Children were Ernest, Wright, Frances, John, Gertrude and Rose. William J died in 1883. Ernest died in 1906. Many of the above, and other family members, are buried in the Trinity Church Cemetery in lower Manhattan. William J was the developer of the town of Stapleton, Staten Island, was associated with Gov.Tompkins and was a US Diplomat in France. If you identify with any of the above or have any information about them, I would appreciate hearing from you.
