    3. It's surprising that folks don't inquire about early Quaker records in Northern Westchester County, especially around Chappaqua, Amawalk, and Purchase. While previewing these, I found many of these surnames: BIRDSALL, CARPENTER, HAIGHT, MILLER & PURDY. I hope this brings you closer to your ancestors, Barb

    3. Purdy? Hmm... now that's an interesting name. Quaker? Interesting. I have a potential Purdy in my direct line. I've actually been trying to disprove that one in preference for another couple. What have you got on Purdy? My Purdy would actually have lived in Rockland County, for a while at least. Quakers kept good records, if she was a Purdy, I should be able to find out more about her. That opens up a whole new line of research. > > > > It's surprising that folks don't inquire about early > Quaker records in Northern Westchester County, > especially around Chappaqua, Amawalk, and Purchase. > > While previewing these, I found many of these > surnames: BIRDSALL, CARPENTER, HAIGHT, > MILLER & PURDY. > > I hope this brings you closer to your ancestors, > Barb > > > > *************************************** > Have you checked out the Westchester County GenWeb site yet? > http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nywestch/ > *************************************** > Browse or Search the Mailing List Archives of postings sent to this list > over the years. 1. [NYWESTCH] PURDY + Quakers & Hudson River

    3. When anyone searches Westchester, especially river towns, and especially Northern Westchester, you should check Rockland as well. The Hudson River narrows as you track it north of NYC. From Peekskill, I can easily see houses, count train cars on Rockland's former West Shore Line [now only freight], and even traffic on Rt. 9W. Residents, farmers & their produce, and bricks from the river-line brickyards* made multiple daily boat/ferry runs across the Hudson. Once the Erie Canal was operating, the daily flow of products and people on the Hudson made it the major, busy thoroughfare. *Brickyards employed "famine"era Irish. 3. Hi  What is the Purdy you are looking for in Rockland Co., NY. I used to live in Rockland Co. I have a few Purdy's in my data base, maybe I can help you.               Bill Forshay - San Antonio, TX From: Brian J Densmore via <nywestch@rootsweb.com> To: nywestch@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, October 16, 2015 7:55 AM Subject: Re: [NYWESTCH] Old surnames Purdy?
