Joseph seemed to have moved from being a boarding house keeper into the beer/brewery industry then, as he appeared in the US IRS Tax Assessment Lists between 1860-1866 as a retail liquor dealer in Hastings. I am really wondering now if he spent those years between the assault and his move to Hastings in the Tombs jail.
