The two closest cemeteries open at that time were St. Mary's and Oakland, both in Yonkers. St. Mary's obviously is Catholic; Oakland is non-sectarian. I believe you had to be a parishioner of a Yonkers church to purchase a plot at St. Mary's. If he doesn't turn up in either of those cemeteries, I would suggest trying Calvary in Queens. Even today, many Catholics from this area are buried there due to family connections.
