Bustling river town, once part of Town of CortlandT, NY. From its inception, Assumption shared St. Patrick's Cemetery on Broadway, Verplanck, NY, w/St. Patrick's Church of 11th St. Verplanck, NY (began 1843), until approx 1910. This according to present Assumption pastor yesterday. The present day Assumption Cemetery is located off Oregon Road in northern Town of CortlandT, next to Hillside Cemetery (non-Catholic.. Interments began at the Assumption RC Cemetery approx 1910 and is still active. VERPLANCK, NY is the most overlooked, neglected municipality in the Town of CortlandT,when considering its historical significance and contributions to providing early industry and employment of Irish immigrants. If a home isn't composed of local brick, it is white clapboard and needs painting. Appears to be from another century. Could be a small, attractive town. The Town of CortlandT Historical Society Museum builing, located on one-way 137 7th Street, POB 473, Verplanck, NY 10596, is the first CortlandT Town Hall and Jail. 100 years old.
