    3. According to the web site for the City of Yonkers, they will probably have them. I say "probably" because their web site doesn't seem to show the dates for which they would have them. Give them a phone call to be sure. Here's the link to their web site: http://www.yonkersny.gov/government/departments/city-clerk/certificates-licenses-and-permits/death-certificate Having said the foregoing, you should also know that vital records were not mandated by New York state until 1880. However the law was not enforced until 1917. 3. My best suggestion is to seek BMD certificates from the smallest governmental entity, but if that municipality doesn't find it, you can always order them from Albany. Their website says they have an 8 month wait. 3. My experience has been you receive an abstracted but "verified" transcript of the record as entered from the original in a local record book at the time the event occurred when you obtain a Cert locally. Two Degrees away from the original record - Two opportunities for errors to be made in the transfer of the information given on the original to the document you obtain. When you order from Albany you receive a copy of the original record. To each his own. -----Original Message----- From: mizscarlettny via Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2016 9:12 PM To: 26cathy@gmail.com ; nywestch@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYWESTCH] Death Records My best suggestion is to seek BMD certificates from the smallest governmental entity, but if that municipality doesn't find it, you can always order them from Albany.
