Have you noticed this erroneous change on Ancestry? You enter a name, then want to specify NY County as the location as either "Manhattan, New York, New York" OR my fave> "New York, New York, New York" The drop down menu no longer accepts these above listings for city, county and state. Instead it appears as > "Manhattan, New York City, *New York City Counties*, New York, USA" which evokes multiple county hits. Most researchers are aware that Manhattan is NY County, not multiple counties within NYC. And, prior to 1898, New York City was essentially the island of Manhattan plus a slight part of what became the Bronx. Some bright fool at Ancestry played with what's not broken again! The correct entry is New York New York New York or as we say in legal document in the city county and state of New York Sent from my iPhone > On Jun 5, 2016, at 10:40 AM, mizscarlettny via <nywestch@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > > > > Have you noticed this erroneous change on Ancestry? > > > You enter a name, then want to specify NY County as the location as either > > > "Manhattan, New York, New York" > OR my fave> > > "New York, New York, New York" > > > The drop down menu no longer accepts these above listings for city, county and state. > > > Instead it appears as > > > > "Manhattan, New York City, *New York City Counties*, New York, USA" > which evokes multiple county hits. > > Most researchers are aware that Manhattan is NY County, not multiple counties within NYC. > And, prior to 1898, New York City was essentially the island of Manhattan plus a slight part of > what became the Bronx. Exactly, Barbara, but Ancestry's drop down menu interferes with entering it that way.
