In 1927 Theresa Hall Bristol began a long running series in the NEW YORK GENEALOGICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD on the Fowler family entitled THE DESCENDANTS OF HENRY FOWLER that continued right up until her death with the last installment being published in April 1941. This family had never been chronicled to amount to anything prior to that time. In 1950 Christine C. Fowler plopped the whole works into her fat book and included a number of later additions and other material of variable quality. This even included a fanciful lineage from some Henry Fowler all the way back to Sir Richard Fowler, he in turn allegedly a descendant of Heinrich I (Germany) or Henry "the Fowler". (Holy Roman Emporer) A fascinating legend without a nickle's worth of documentation and a laughable dissertation on the coat-of -arms I won't even go into here - but interesting none the less. The 4 generations I have that are in Mrs. Bristol's data all square with my research. The last generation would have been Moses #167 - this was picked up by C.C. Fowler and basically he and his descendants that are given square up all right. The Grenville Mackenzie papers also give these same Fowlers with less detail and are accessible through the NYGBR or WCHS. The WCHS web site gives an index and e-mail for their Office Manager, Sarah Suarez, and costs are reasonable with very rapid response and turnaround. By preference I use and cite Mrs. Bristol's earlier material from the NYGBR wherever possible and C.C. Fowler's data only where it does not overlap and the Mackenzie data as a secondary source. I would be interested in purchasing the cd for $10 plus shipping. Let me know what he says. Thanks, Carol L. Heap
Cliff, Is the same person who sells them for $24 the one who is bidding this one out for $9.99 also?? If so my logic tells me that he is not going to sell them to us for $10 each. Please let me know if my logic deserted me this time.....i.e. that he tells you $10 is acceptable.LOL. Ed, I went to your website and it looks as if you are running an online bookstore. I didn't bother to check prices. We have created a on-going "Colonial Family" series covering the lineages of families in certain regions of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia. We would like to begin a seres for early families in Westchester Co. and adjoining counties. We have begun amassing data on the following families: Betts, Budd, Cornell, Drake, Ecker, Ferris, Fowler, Gedney, Guion, Haviland, Hunt, Hyatt, Leggett, Palmer, Pel, Purdy, Underhill, Vail, Van Cortlandt and Willett. Over the next several months I will be scanning through the early deed books (on LDS microfilm) to add further to the data base. We are looking for someone who has access to Westchester records to further expand our research of these families and review our work. In addition a review of existing family histories is needed. This person would take the role of co-author and receive royalites. If interested phone me at 800-567-8608. The CD you mentioned to be found on ebay sounds interesting. Unfortunately the sites you provided were unattainable, by me anyway, and I don't know why. Do you know if they are still available or if I may purchase them somewhere else. I am searching Davenports of Westchester County.
Maureen, I had no trouble making a bid either. I just want to get the CD for me and others at a rock bottom price. Bidding only drives the price up, and maybe only one person can get the CD at that price. Then, the CD will be offered again and again and again. This is not a case where an individual owns a single copy. The seller can make thousands of them and will get whatever the market will bear for each one. This item will be on eBay for years. The company has hundreds of CDs for sale, and this is a way of marketing them. I have written to the seller of the CD to ask if $10 was an acceptable price. I looked around on eBay but could not find a "Buy It Now" price of $24.95. I could only see the bid price of $9.99. I told the seller there might be several other people interested at the $10 price if that price was acceptable. I said I would send their names prior to their order so the seller would know who would be getting the minimum price (other people would be ordering at the same time at a higher price, I suspect). I will let everyone know what reply I get. I think it is a bargain at $10 as long as the search engine works well. I will inquire about that before making my own purchase. Cliff Lamere
