I have been doing a lot of research in Ulster County and have learned that shortly after the Dutch left NYC in about 1660 when the Duke of York came sailing in, a group of Huguenots purchased a very large portion of what was Ulster County at that time. Ulster then gave land to Orange and to Greene and became a lot smaller, but the French names []and their Anglicization are still very obvious in much of the research I do. I was happy to learn that the flight to Holland is what precluded their strength as Reformed Dutch Church members, because I never had made that connection. Since Ulster was a very large county and had so many French surnames, it would be a good bet to look there as well. I have du Bois, Palmatier and Alliger as surnames in Ulster so far. Marty: My family did about the same thing. They were Dutch Reformed and came to New York, some went to New Jersey. A couple went to Canada during the War and started families up there. After the Revolutionary War they started moving West to Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, California and Oregon. My major problem is what spelling of the surname to research in France. Here in the states the most popular spellings were FORSHAY, FORSHEE and FOSHAY. But like I said earlier I have found it spelled about 46 different ways. Thank you for your response I appreciate it very much. It gives me another clue to research. I wrote them a letter and they have no records on her. I can find data on them in this country, they settled in Westchester Co., NY. Jim, there were quite a few Averys marrying into Bedford families. Unfortunately, most of the published sources I own cover mainly the settler families of Bedford, and neither Avery nor my family falls into that category. Have you contacted the Bedford Historical Society? Elizabeth W. I have found out that a Charles Blodgett was born in Bedford NY, probably ca. 1780. He married Deborah Avery b. ca 1785 per 1850 census. Would like to find out if this Deborah Avery was from Westchester Co NY as well. She may have had a brother Jacob Avery b. ca 1786. They were both in Bradford Co PA. Joan, Well, I can't say for sure, as I still haven't found the Immigration record on either Axel Dahl (and there is alot of Dahls), or Nordenadler, which is a very unusual name, even in Sweden. However, I do have a current Wolfe in-law. I try the search you mention. Oh well, it lasted for 55 years anyway, I THINK he was happy that we made it that far! He's only been gone 6 months yesterday. I miss him so much. Dear Joan, Reading this my heart went out to you, as I have been married 49 years to my best friend (more in our later years - ha) and he has a bad heart & I may lose him any time & I dread the day. Just had to let you know many of us are out there knowing how you feel, losing ones companion, friend, one who knows you best & still loves you. My prayers are with you to give you the strength to enjoy the rest of your life. I know mine will be through my kids & grandkids. June

Yes, I remember. Poorly worded email as I was rushing out to work. Should have asked if anyone was aware of a problem in Yonkers prior to Cliff's call, or if it had just become a "Yonkers" discussion because the initial question posed had asked IF Yonker's required a DL. ----- Original Message ----- From: quillpen1 Date: Friday, March 30, 2007 11:27 am Subject: Re: [NYWESTCH] Vital Records & drivers license To: nywestch@rootsweb.com > Cliff just inquired yesterday and got conflicting answers from > the Yonkers > City Clerk's Office.
