Hi John I saw your post at NYWESTCH-L@rootsweb.com and I couldn't resist seeing what I could find on your question - first off it seems there might be another way to spell the name as I've found - the following page talks about Chidwick/Chadwick http://www.spanamwar.com/chidwick.html also I put Spanish American mounments into google's image search and came up with quite a few photos - one in Arlington Cemetery since you have a photo of what you are looking for maybe if you do the same google image search you might find what you are looking for anyway help this helps a little - Barb _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! Maureen, The researchers that pull files at NARA are very good and usually quite thorough. However, they are human beings and the clerk looking for you might have been having a bad day. I have heard of people receiving files and finding out later there is quite a lot more. You might just want to send the whole request back in again and see what happens. If you can send me what you do know about him, such as name, any dates, service unit if known, etc., I will see if I can find anything further in any of the databases that I subscribe to. I have a copy of a plaque with his name and stats along with all the other men in his regiment. George was in the Cavalry. Something else that could be pertinent. Sam had the title of Captain in his obit. I have no idea what he was a captain of but his wife's family were shipbuilders. Hi All, I just got a letter from NARA that they had not been able to locate my g-g-grandfather's Civil War service record. There was no charge for looking. I had previously ordered his "cemetery card" from the Westchester Archives with all his info on it including his Record # and Branch of Service, etc. Any suggestions?? Thanks, Maureen In the depth of Winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible Summer Camus
I am looking for information on a Spanish American war monument. It appears to have been dedicated some time in 1925. I hav a photo of it and it appears to be either in a park or cemetery. It was dedicated by a Monsignor Chadwick president of the College of New Rochelle. I am looking to find out if it still exsits and its current location and if its still in the same spot as in 1925. I am slo looking for information on this Monsignor Chadwick, who was the Chaplin of the Battleship Maine during the Spanish American war. Thanks in advance John LaBarre

I spoke with a knowledgeable person at the NYS Health Dept. today. There will be about a ten day delay in my reporting further information concerning the ordering of vital records certificates from Yonkers. As soon as I learn anything, I'll let you know. Cliff
Hi, Maureen -- was notified that the material I sent Bill was too large and so is up for review -- I'll be informed as to whether it goes through or not. Meanwhile here is the letter part. Do send me your email address and I'll send you the attachment. Jean Bill, I found the information I have about Foshay. William Forster, b. 1710 in England, was sent to America about 1720 by the English Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. He settled in Rye, NY and was also high sherrif in Westchester County. He married Jane Barnes about 1734. Jane was born about 1734 and died Nov. 7, 1797. Together William and Jane had a son, Marmaduke, b. 1735. Although there is no record of divorce, Jane apparently did divorce William and then married William Foshay, with whom she had nine children! Jane was the daughter of Underhill Barnes, born 1694. His lineage can be traced back to Edward Barnes, b. 1580, d. 1657. Jane's mother was Miriam Baxter, b. 1696. Her lineage can be traced back to George Baxter, b. 1600. I am a descendant of Marmaduke Forster! ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Hi, Bill, I thought the name Foshay was familiar! I have an ancestor Jane Barnes who married a Foshay in Westchester County, NY where several branches of my folks came from. Bill, I found two Foshay bios online that start with Jan Foshay who came to NYS in 1695. This is my line so it must be yours too. Unfortunately the links wouldn't send when I tried to send it here. So I'll see if they will transmit privately. Otherwise I'll copy and paste the entire lines into Wordpad and send them privately if you feel they will be useful to you. Go to Google and type in Early Dutch Passenger Lists to America. Jean ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
I have found lots of information about the Huguenots who left France in the 15 and 1600s due to unbelievable religious persecution. In 1536 there was a General Edict urging extermination of all Huguenots! The worst came on August 24, 1573, which was Saint Bartholomew's Day when the Queen, (Catherine de Medici) approved of a new wave of extermination of all Protestants. The Queen herself gave the signal for the killing to begin. 3000 were killed in Paris, 70,000 in all of France. (Go to Google and read about it -- it will curl your hair!) My gggg grandparents were lucky to escape to Holland where after several years they boarded De Vergulde Bever (the Gilded Beaver) on May 15, 1658 and arrived on Aug 18 -- a really fast trip! I did this research several years ago, so I don't remember all the sources of info, but I used Google a lot and I got the Ship and Passenger Information from "First Settlement of New York by the Dutch" I believe that Cyndi's List has info about the Huguenots! Good Luck, Jean ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
