    3. (Genealogy certificates in Yonkers will NOT require any proof of identification from the person requesting the records.) Wow! Cliff, you sure did a good job following through with, if one needs proof in getting certificates from Yonkers. That is a big brake through for all of us that do-not want to send in our drivers license. I will save your letter and refer to the research you have done, should I need it. Great job! June :-)

    3. Dear Group, I can't thank you all enough for all the information you sent out. I learned a lot and what's nice I know others learned about "Request for Photocopies" too. This is what this forum is all about, is that we learn from each other. I have learned so much in these past few weeks from everyone personally going out of your way to help others & I just feel so good inside knowing there are people out there like you. THANKS, June :-)

    3. Elizabeth, The town used to be called Sing Sing the same as the prison. The town name was changed to Ossining later on in order to avoid the constant confusion. In 1877 and 1879 the town was still named Sing Sing so that's why the census lists it that way. 1. [NYWESTCH] Sing Sing Biths?
    2. Hi, I have two relatives born 1877 and abt. 1879 who show up on the 1880 census in Manhattan as being born in Sing Sing! It's rare to see anything but the state a person was born in let alone the town, so I was wondering why they would put down that they were born in Sing Sing. I'm assuming that they meant that they were born in Ossinging. Any information would be greatly appreciated - Thanks!! 1. [NYWESTCH] Yonkers vital records for genealogy
    2. Cliff Lamere
    3. I received a phone call today from an official of the vital records section of the NYS Health Dept. He had a discussion with the Yonkers registrar and confirmed what I had earlier said to the list. She was requiring indentification in instances when none was needed. On the back of the form for ordering certificates, the rules are stated. I discussed these with the official a few weeks ago after the Yonkers registrar sent me the form from which she had quoted me the rules over the telephone. They are easy to misinterpret, and I believed the registrar was doing that. Some of you have noted that the ID requirement (like a driver's license) was new, so something must have changed in that office. The registrar of Yonkers has not held that position long. So here is where things stand, as told to me today. Genealogy certificates in Yonkers will NOT require any proof of identification from the person requesting the records. Genealogy certificates are as follows: Birth certificates issued more than 75 years ago. Marriage certificates issued more than 50 years ago. Death certificates issued more than 50 years ago. ID can be required for more recent certificates, but it is not necessary to do so. Yonkers can make that decision. My understanding, though I'm a bit uncertain, is that more recent birth and marriage certificates can be sometimes be obtained statewide for Genealogy, but only if the person is dead and proof is supplied to the vital records office. You may also have to be a descendant, but I'm not certain of that. The information was coming faster than I could record notes. Cliff

A d.c is $12--no questions asked--stamped as official --and-- IN COLOR!. Didn't care WHO I was! Didn't ask! BLEW ME AWAY. Guess the local legislators in my County haven't thought of this one yet! 1. Re: [NYWESTCH] Request for Photocopies
    2. Friend, I think you need to order the film you need at your local LDS Center. It costs about six dollars for a 30 day loan to use on their microfilm readers at their facility. When the film comes in, your read it on the microfilm reader and when you find what you want, you then take it to a microfilm printer at their facility and print out the information you are looking for. That usually costs 25 cents a copy, or thereabouts. Hope this is hellpful to you. George in CA ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    1. [NYWESTCH] Request for Photocopies
    2. J.H.
    3. Dear Group, I went to my local LDS, with all the information (meaning film numbers) to order marriage or death certificates through filling out "Request for Photocopies". The gentleman there did not know anything about "Request for Photocopies" and called someone on the phone & she the person on the phone was not sure what I was talking about either. Maybe I'm wrong - I thought if I had a film number - certificate # & all the information on that vital record - I could just mail it in from home myself. I went to the family center because years ago when I asked this question at another center, they said to do it through them (I think so they get the credit, showing their center is active). Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to get the certificates? Plus the "Request for Photocopies" form I have is kind of old, is it still $2.00 (for 1 or if you order 8, it's still $2.00) Thank you, June :-)

    3. Carol, I don't have Gerald Vincent's email address, but the third Printing of his book was by: Duncan Print-Craft Ltd. 971 Canada Avenue Duncan, BC V9L IV2 It was last printed in Feb. 2000, so I don't if that will be any help to you. Vincent used to be a member of this list. The back of the book says that he's retired and living in Duncan, BC. It also lists Cobequid Press, so perhaps you could Google Cobequid.
