    1. [NYWESTCH] Burials at "CITY CEMETERY" or "POTTERS FIELD?"
    2. After viewing 15 microfilmed, Manhattan death certificates of babies circa 1920, I was shocked that the burial location of the majority was "City Cemetery." According to one of the pros, that means Hart Island. Melinda Hunt began the Hart Island Project that you can check out at http://hartisland.net/wwwebs/ It's a pretty sad place. Disintegrated and missing records. Mass burials. Unmarked graves. Since the Department of Corrections' prisoners do the burying, visiting there is problematic. Impoverished children and adults were buried here. Babies who died at New York Foundling were buried here, as were babies of unwed or young mothers. If you have a death certificate with City Cemetery or Potters Field stamped on it, please submit the information to the Hart Island Project using the form at> http://www.hartisland.net/wwwebs/Contact/tabid/134/Default.aspx ( You may need to register to submit.) Please include, in this order, the following: County of Death: Date of Death: Certificate Number: Name of Deceased: Age at Death: Parents' Names and/or relatives names of deceased Your name and email address This is one of those ongoing project where you can make a difference! Watch spam folder! In the meantime, your family descends from the Ten Eyck family. Go to the card catalog under the Search tab. Type in Genealogical and Family History of Central New York. Click on Volume II. The top result should be Page 584. Read 584 and 585. Especially sections III and V. Your Peekskill Denikes are most likely descendents of John De Nike who settled in Peekskill. John is either the grandson of Adrian or Jacob, and is the great grandson of Tobias. NYG&B is a great resource and has good descendency info about the Ten Eycks. Good luck! I have sent an E-mail to them, but received no response to a request of a form, or any information. There was no Obituary in the New York Times. Does anyone have an idea of where I can get a proper form, and/or the fee, for such? I do have his Will. However, I need to know the cause of death, for two family genetic problems. Many Polish families settled in Yonkers in the late 1800s. The church was their social and moral place to go. There is also a Polish Community Center in Yonkers that is still very active (the food is great). If the family lived in what they called "the hollow" they certainly woulf have been active in this church. Author: asteeber Surnames: Malinowski Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.westchester/7286/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm trying to find the grave of the daughter of my Great Great Aunt and Uncle who lived in Yonkers between 1904 and 1908. They immigrated with a small daughter, named Sofia (Sophia). She is listed on the ship's manifest (as Sofia), and later in the 1905 census (as Sophia), but by the time they were naturalized in 1908, she was no longer living. I was hoping someone could suggest resources to help find her. Westchester County did not have any success locating a Death Certificate, most likely because I do not have an exact date of death. They lived on Madison Avenue in Yonkers, as listed on the census, but that area is now razed and re-built. However, they were Catholic and St Mary's cemetery would have literally been a block away, so I was thinking I could possibly start my search there? Does anyone know whom to contact to find interment records for St Mary's? Would a church keep them or is there a caretaker on site? Thank you for all your help! ~Lex Steeber Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am doing geneology research for my family in Hornell NY. 5 hours west of Westchester county. My great great great grandfather was also an Increase Miller. He was born in 1798 and married a Minerva Miller. He settled in the wilderness north of Arkport NY in 1824 on 60 acres of land purchased from the famous Pultney Estate. Our Steuben County historical society says they have records that show he was from Westchester County but thats all they can asertain. I know there are about 6 Increase Millers dating back thru the 1700's. I need to know if any Increase Miller researcher's have come across my grandfather and grandmother Minerva. I would like to be able to tie this down and get my lineage built back to John Miller in the 1600's. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
