I'm curious how recent commitment papers might be available. I'm considering searching for a commitment to an institution in the mid to late 30s. Something about a breakdown and claims about the Lindbergh baby. Made quite a scene, from what I've been told. Thanks, Brian

Ok, you know of my close connection to the probate records. BUT, that is not what I want to discuss about. What I want to discuss, what is it about the probate files so many are not willing to look into? What is it about you going for will record which is the rarest item in probate records as one researcher defined it, it being in less than 1 to 100 ratio. Don't you know the probate files more often than not, have the ORIGINAL will and the one that is in will book might contains clerical errors? Don't you know the far more people left NO will than there were who did? Don't you know the probate files often contain:? 1. guardianship proceedings giving more details than a letter of guardianship including ages and birth dates of children. 2. Property division and sale in details 3. Vouchers of payments to heirs often not mentioned in the will or where there's no will 4. Orders and decrees detailing appointments and firings of executors, going into details. 5. Exact date of death and even place of death 6. petitions for administrations 7. Insancy proceedings (as in being feeble-minded, committments, etc) 8. Children declared uncontrolled and sent to state schools, etc. W. David Samuelsen SAMPUBCO

She would have died in Feb 1920. In the 1920 census her father Samuel Almasi and her sons are living with a William Varecka in Dobbs Ferry. Her sons are listed as his sons and he is listed as married but she is not listed. Her daughter named Bertha too is listed as his wife but she is only 15 and I already have her marriage record when she gets older to another man so she is not married to him. I cannot find a death record for Bertha or a marriage record of her to William Varecka. If anyone can help by telling me if there is anywhere I can search I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance. Greetings fellow Genealogists… I have told many of you about the Onondaga County Public Library and their willingness to look up records from the New York State Birth, Marriage and Death Index Microfilms. For many of us in the lower New York area, the only alternative is to this is going to the NARA Library in NYC and doing it ourselves as these films are NOT widely distributed across the State. And if you live out of State, you would be out of luck altogether as the NY State indexes are not published ANYWHERE online. I know that I have received dozens of leads from the nice people at this library, by just emailing them at [email protected] If you find this resource of any value, I urge you to support them by reading their email below and voting for them to get their new equipment. The Huntsville Daily Times, published in Huntsville, AL July 7 1915 Page/Column: Page 4, Column 3 Rockefeller Is Now Closely Guarded ------------------ (Special to The Daily Times) Tarrytown, N. Y., July 7 – Because of the attempt to assassinate J. P. MORGAN, additional guards have been engaged for the Pocantico Hills estate of John D. ROCKEFELLER. When he goes to the golf links or walks upon his grounds, guards are always within calling distance. The same precautions are now being exercised that were taken when the Industrial Workers of the World were carrying on a campaign of annoyance against the Rockefellers a year ago. No one but employees and friends of the family may now enter the gates. Mr. Rockefeller had planned to leave for Cleveland last night, but the trip has been postponed indefinitely. http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/link.php?action=detail&id=96886
