He was baptized in Tarrytown, NY the son of Jacob De Revere who was born at Philipsburgh, NY 29 Mar 1775. Isaac had a sister Gemime who was born 20 April 1799. Is he the same Isaac Revere who married Rachel Vantine on August 19, 1818 at the Reformed Dutch Church in New York City? Thank you for posting this great lead, Joyce. Search request details are at the bottom, within Joyce's post. Folks, please feel free to pass on my additions. l) This address is for railroad retirees nationally from 1936 forward. 2) Usually the first three digits of RR employees' Social Security numbers are coded 700 through 729. 3) I wrote them years ago w/my ancestor's unusual surname and DOB and they kept my $27. check and reported he was not in their system, which was untrue. 4) Now, defunct "Railway Express" employees were railroad employees. Genealogists and family historians should still initially contact the RRB with their requests. We will determine whether the RRB or NARA has the information requested. "Genealogists should note the following: "The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board administers a Federal retirement benefit program covering the nation's railroad workers...[dealing] primarily with the administration and payment of these benefits. We will provide information on deceased persons for...genealogical research...not release information on a person who is still living without the written consent of that person. "Our records are limited to individuals who worked in the rail industry after 1936. Please do not contact us with requests for records before that date. We do not have that information...Nor...have any pertinent records of persons whose rail service was performed on a casual basis and/or was of short duration...RRB's records are only on persons whose employers were covered under the Railroad Retirement Act. Several of my German speaking family during that time period utilized 2 churches in Yonkers: St. John's Episcopal and Westminster Presbyterian, Rev G.H. Cutting. They were originally Lutheran. It looks like they attended the Presbyterian church and utilized the Episcopal graveyard to bury their dead. One ancestress who spoke no English was associated with both those churches. Good luck.
Hi: I'm trying to find the church my GGrand father was married in, his name was Otto Bierschenk and wife was Pauline 'Malla' Sieg . The year was 1885 and they were probably Lutheran. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Bill Forshay - San Antonio, TX

Skip… Those names have not crossed my path yet, but I do know there are Yerks relatives that came from the Orange County area. Philip L. Didn't read everything, so forgive me if you already have some of my answers. I have done over 75 successful DAR applications in the last 4 years, so l am quite familiar with its requirements. I also work with the local SAR in doing applications. As most of the ones i have done are for ancestors from what is now North Rockland County, I have also learned a lot of history of the area. 1. The DAR accepts any service during the Revolutionary War, military or civil. Operating the ferry which transported troops across the Hudson was sufficient service for one DAR application. More common are serving on a Committee of Correspondence, being a Justice of the Peace, and holding other town positions. 2. The names I noticed you mention, Youmans and Hogencamp, are Orange (now Rockland) County names from the Town of Haverstraw. There was a document called the Orangetown Resolutions, or some such thing, that was signed by all patriots in southern Orange (now Rockland) County. it is divided up in sections by areas--the Town of Haverstraw was a very large area at that time, what is now all of north Rockland County. Cole has Resolutions in his History of Rockland County. Signing the resolutions is sufficient service for the DAR. 3. Withdrawing a pension request, or even having a pension application denied, in no way affects a DAR or SAR application. These pension applications can be just as valuable for DAR and SAR purposes as a pension granted. That is because the reason for denial was generally that the length of service required under various pension acts was very hard to prove for militia members, especially those in the Orange County militia. These men were charged with guarding the shores of the Hudson. Hence, they were called out whenever there was a british sighting, and then went back home and worked their farms. Many did not show up in the summer but would do guard duty most of the winter. No records were kept of the length of each stint on guard duty. I actually have an ancestor whose heirs were denied a pension because they couldn't prove that the service was military, not civilian. He was a quartermaster and paymaster throughout most of the War for Salem and Burlington Counties, New Jersey. This duty salved his conscience as a Quaker but contributed to the Patriot cause. He considered himself to be in the military, but the pension Board was not convinced. If you want to find the orangetown resolutions, drop me a note and I will give you the page where it begins. The problem with Cole--no index. I am at work now or would include it in this email. Barbara L. de Mare, Esq. Phil, On the matter of Hermon Yerks being 12-16 during the time he wished to serve in the RW at West Point, one of my ancestors did likewise, Jonathon Youmans. He however applied for and withdrew his application for a pension, but in that application is verification by some of his comrades. He didn't see any frontline action, or fight in any battles but did serve at West Point. One of those witnesses was a local politician, a judge Hogenkamp, IIRC. So it's totally feasible, he served. Whether the DAR/SAR accepts that kind of service, I don't know. I have many routes to joining, and for me at least it's simply a matter of linking back to one already in those lists. I just read through this string and may I add~ There are many patriots who are not listed with the DAR or SAR. My Henry Depew, for instance. My problem being the lack of DAR acceptable records for his son and grandson. Why wasn't he added years ago when the requirements were less restrictive? No one bothered, those in my family who were from his son, Abraham's line, went in on Abraham. Henry was ignored. I spend many hours on fold3. A simple search for a person may not turn up as much information as you would like, it could be the person is there somewhere but his name has not been annotated to show up in a search. I have found men who died, no pension, only a handful of Service records mentions and nothing else to show they ever existed. Did they have families, possibly, for some reason they did not need or knew they could to apply for a pension. Who knows. I have found interesting information on men who did live in affidavits on other's pension applications, including my Henry. There are gems in remote folders in Treasury Reports, in Muster Rolls, Quartermaster Records, Hospital records, Misc. folders and so on. You can't leave any stone unturned on fold3, there are many gems just waiting to be discovered. Thankfully, you can now search using soundex and such where before we needed the correct spelling or needed to be very creative in our spelling. I am pretty sure that there is an organization in Canada of descendants of people who went to Canada as Loyalists. I seem to recall seeing it when I had an Ancestry subscription years ago that included the Canadian records. Judy In a message dated 9/20/2012 12:44:41 A.M.
