Put the name in quotes & the town (also in quotes) & search for "all words". You may need to try a few variations (first and last name, first middle & last name, first and middle initial and last name-- for women sometimes first and maiden name). 1. [NYWESTCH] 1915 Sing Sing Execution of Charles Becker
    2. The Huntsville Daily Times, published in Huntsville, AL July 29 1915 Description: Becker Will Die At 5:45 Tomorrow Morning; Will Plead With Governor To Stay The Execution ================ Page 1, Column 1 ================ Becker Will Die At 5:45 Tomorrow Morning ------------------ NOTED PRISONER MUST DIE FOR THE MURDER GAMBLER, H. ROSENTHAL ------------------ (By the Associated Press) NEW YORK, July 29 – Final preparation for the execution of Charles Becker at Sing Sing at 5:45 o’clock tomorrow morning was begun today following the announcement that a new trial had been refused him. There is much speculation as to whether the attorneys will make another appeal which will stay the execution or whether such an appeal is possible. At an attorneys’ meet today the state’s attorney declared no appeal is possible. Justice Ford declared the case was now in the hands of the governor. The governor has already approved the decision. Ford declared that if he doubted Becker’s guilt he would pardon him. Becker will be given a suit in which to be executed, a bath, hair cut and shave today. He will receive the last visits from his relatives this afternoon. May Try Quick Appeal Route NEW YORK, July 29 – Martin T. Manton stated that Becker’s counsel is considering rushing to Syracuse to ask Judge Hogan of the Court of Appeals to stay the execution pending an appeal from Judge Ford’s decision. Hogan did not concur in the prevailing opinion of the appeal court. Mrs. Becker To See Whitman (By the Associated Press) ALBANY, N. Y., July 29 – Mrs. Chas. Becker arrived here and will see Governor Whitman in behalf of her husband tonight. Becker Bearing Up Well (By the Associated Press) OSSINING, N. Y., July 29 – Becker is reported to be bearing up well now with virtually all hopes gone. Warden Osborne is opposed to capital punishment and will leave the prison this evening. A deputy will have charge of the execution of Becker. Samuel Haynes, a negro, probably will be executed a few minutes before Becker. ================ Page 4, Column 7 ================ WILL PLEAD WITH GOVERNOR TO STAY THE EXECUTION ------------------ (By the Associated Press) NEW YORK, July 29 – Becker’s counsel has abandoned the idea of appealing to Judge Hogan. They will plead with the governor instead, to stay the execution until the Appeals Court convenes to allow and appeal to be taken.

    3. Can anyone tell me if a Catholic couple was married and having children in Ossining from about 1885 through 1900 what church might they have attended? Also if an Irish Catholic couple was married in New Rochelle and having children baptized there in the 1850s and 1860s what church would they most likely have attended? Thanks for any feedback.
