> > >> >> Death Notices Appearing in >> Lansingburgh Newspapers >> 1787 - 1895 >> >> An index to 9,682 death notices that were published in ten different Lansingburgh, New York, newspapers from 1787 to 1895 was created by staff at the Troy Public Library in 1938 through 1939. The Troy Irish Genealogy Society was allowed by the Troy Library to scan the two books of these important records so they could be made available on-line for genealogy researchers. To see these records go to the TIGS website - www.troyirish.com - click on PROJECTS and then click on DEATH NOTICES APPEARING IN LANSINGBURGH NEWSPAPERS. >> Lansingburgh, by the way, for those not in the Capital District Region, was the first chartered village in Rensselaer County and was settled around 1763. In 1900 Lansingburgh became part of the City of Troy, New York. >> >> The ten different Lansingburgh newspapers were: >> >> American Spy >> Federal Herald >> Lansingburgh Advertiser >> Lansingburgh Chronicle >> Lansingburgh Courier >> Lansingburgh Democrat >> Lansingburgh Gazette >> Lansingburgh Daily Gazette >> Lansingburgh Times >> Northern Centinel >> >> Under “RESOURCES” on the TIGS website, www.troyirish.com you will also find an informative article, “Newspapering in Rensselaer County”, which identifies which of the above newspapers are available, on microfilm or hard copy, at the Troy Library. >> These historical records are extremely important to genealogy researchers as the bulk of the records predate New York’s 1880 law that required reporting of deaths. Outside of church death and burial records and newspaper accounts, you will not find these records anywhere else. >> >> In addition to the name of the deceased, other entries show the age, date of death, names of newspapers that reported the death along with the newspaper date, page and column number where you will find the death notice in the appropriate newspaper. >> >> It is important to note that the residence for the deceased is not just Lansingburgh, but may cover all areas of New York State, other States and even foreign countries. >> >> Hopefully you will find some of your ancestors in this new data base or in the various other data series of almost 300,000 Irish AND Non-Irish names on the Troy Irish Genealogy website. >> >> >> >> Bill McGrath >> TIGS Project Coordinator >> Clifton Park, NY >> >> >> >> >>
I just filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, and with Congressmen Lowey & Schumer involving my genealogy related magazine subscriptions, from Magazines.com. I've purchased many gifts there and for my use. They automatically renew and bill my charge cards without my pre-approval. This has gone on for years. If you are on fixed incomes, magazines and other online services may be billing you for renewals without your prior approval, that you can't afford. Heads up you Genie-Bugs and get those charges reversed, today! Barb

Lillian Kisslinger Kelly was born in NYC and raised in Queens, NYC. Prior to marrying Edward Kelly, she was an executive secretary in Manhattan's advertising field and would often say those execs were the wittiest people she ever met. My hunch is that her wit was contagious. Even in suburban Mahopac NY, Lillian never missed an issue of the New York Post. Lillian admired Ed Koch, supported unions, and took pride in everything she put her name to, including everyday family dinners. She knew her responsibilities, and she knew her American rights. Lillian's humor had a spark of irreverence that would make you think twice. Lillian could outthink any over-educated boss. It was this tenacity and intelligence that got Lillian Kelly elected to Shop Steward of the Village of Ossining Civil Service Employees Union, and garnered her full votes from the difficult to please DPW and Street Department men. We called her our Norma Rae. In her personal life, Lillian was an ever-loving, ever-supporting, ever-loyal wife, mother, sister, cousin, and friend. She will be remembered for her indefatigable gift of transplanting love into everyone in her reach. ********************** KELLY, Lillian Louise Kisslinger Lillian Kelly, 84, of Stuart, FL, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on September 15, 2014 in Hospice care at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. She was born in New York on May 27, 1930 to Charles and Elizabeth Kisslinger. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Edward Kelly, her son, Kevin Kelly (Julie) and daughter, Deirdre Westmark (Robert) and three grandchildren, Wendi Westmark, Brad Westmark and Nicholas Kelly, her cousins, Joan Ecker, Joe Kisslinger (Nancy), Andrea Kern and her extended family including her niece and two nephews and many cousins whom she cherished. For over 40 years Ed and Lillian made their home in Mahopac, NY where they raised their children. Lillian spent many years working for the Village of Ossining in New York in an administrative role for the Parks and Recreation Department. There she served as president of the union, a position she was very proud of. Shortly after retirement she became a full time grandmother. Ten years ago Ed and Lillian made Stuart, FL their permanent home. Her greatest joy in life was being a grandmother to Wendi, Brad and Nicholas. Lillian instilled the value of life's focus on God and family to all her children. Private services will be held Saturday, September 20 in the chapel at Edward Kelly's residence: The Stuart Lodge, 1301 SE Palm Beach Rd, Stuart, FL 34994. I have been working on this family for a number of years. It seems like there was one main family in Westchester namely Salem and Bedford area through the years. I know that some lived in Boutonville for a period of time around the Rev. War. namely Thomas b. 1723 d.Mar of 1797 Salem and June Harford b.? d. Mar 1797 also. Later on their son Ephriam b.1757 inherited the land and raised his family there. I know that Thomas had a son Peter b. 1758 in Salem or Minisink Or. Co. who lived just over the border in Bedford and he later inherited that property. Later a Brady own this property. Peter and Ephriam are both Patriots listed with the DAR Rev. War. This area is now the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation State Park.... I have had 2 Harford men in my notes through the years that were playing hard to get in my research. One was a James b. abt 1755 and the other one John b. abt 1758.. James is on 1790 to 1810 census’ and John abt. the same. I have James marrying Esther Lockwood and John marrying Ruth Avery. I can’t find who their children were except for a couple or who their parents were. Recently I had some info on Thomas given to me. I found out he was born in London, Eng. This info also listed his children filling in some blanks for me.. one was a Gersham b. abt 1750, I have no info on him.. John and James also b. in early 1750’s These have to be to 2 men l mentioned up above The other 2 sons are Peter and Ephraim b. 1757 both of whom I have info. There are dau.s of Thomas and June also that I have come across in my searching.. Sarah, Nancy, Mary, Anna, There may have been a Hannah who married a Abraham Blodget. I have had a lot of help from people in Pound Ridge, No. Salem and Lewisboro regarding this family for which I’m very thankful The girls married into the Green families, Slawson, Griffens.... Most of the Harfords moved on to the other Ny. counties mid 1800’s as well as western states. The few that stayed were my 3xgr grandfather John Cross Harford and Azube Wood in Pound Ridge area with their family. One son was my 2x gr.grandfather Joseph and Eliza Platt Ferris Harford also of Pound Ridge area. He was a Civil War Vet as well as his brother Thomas F. Harford who lost his life in Va. He was the only son that left male descendants. His wife was Catherine Scofield who later remarried. Would love to know more abt. Thomas’s children especially Gersham, James and John. One more mystery remains..who was <<Widdow Hartfor age 99>>>>> mentioned in the Christ Church Deaths. she d. Jan 28 1776 b. abt 1677, Can she be Thomas’s mother Hannah who came from Eng. with Thomas? Would love to hear more abt. these families. I appreciate any amount of info that’s out there.....and would be willing to share what I have.. Thank you for reading this long email. you have all been very helpful to me through the years... Sandee from NH
