There is even a Seth Howe in E Pembroke -- Seth was the youngest son of my Lucius Spencer. Now I am VERY interested in the possibility of a Spencer connection. She was b in Batavia Genesee Co NY. (I also responded to your post on SHGS.) I'd like to communicate with you as our family also has a Spencer puzzle to solve. Mom's Spencer ancestors were in Genesee Co NY at least since 1830. I see someone states that Allen was b in Ontario Co NY and his wife, Harriet Howe, was b in Genesee Co NY. Do we have a connection here? I will do more research regarding Harriet's connection. Did you have a Spencer male family member do the YDNA testing? My 1st cousin (Lynn Douglas Spencer) did that test. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NYWESTCH] New Data Base - Old Marriage Records
    2. Bill & Cathy McGrath via
    3. Marriage Notices Appearing in Lansingburgh Newspapers 1787 - 1895 An index to 2,712 marriage notices covering 5,424 names that were published in ten different Lansingburgh, New York newspapers from 1787 to 1895 was created by staff at the Troy Public Library in 1938 through 1939. The Troy Irish Genealogy Society was allowed by the Troy Library to scan this book so these important records could be made available on-line for genealogy researchers. To see these records go to the TIGS website - www.troyirish.com - click on PROJECTS and then click on MARRIAGE NOTICES APPEARING IN LANSINGBURGH NEWSPAPERS. Lansingburgh, by the way, for those not in the Capital District Region, was the first chartered village in Rensselaer County and was settled around 1763. In 1900 Lansingburgh became part of the City of Troy, New York. The ten different Lansingburgh newspapers were: American Spy Federal Herald Lansingburgh Advertiser Lansingburgh Chronicle Lansingburgh Courier Lansingburgh Democrat Lansingburgh Gazette Lansingburgh Daily Gazette Lansingburgh Times Northern Centinel Under “RESOURCES” on the TIGS website, www.troyirish.com you will also find an informative article, “Newspapering in Rensselaer County”, which identifies which of the above newspapers are available, on microfilm or hard copy, at the Troy Library. These historical records are extremely important to genealogy researchers as the bulk of the records predate New York’s 1880 law that required reporting of marriages. Outside of the marriage location itself, church, justice of the peace, etc., you will not find these records anywhere else. Most entries show the name of the bride and groom, the residence (city, town, village) for both, date of marriage, names of newspapers that reported the marriage along with the newspaper date, page and column number where you will find the notice in the appropriate newspaper. It is important to note that the residence for the bride and groom is not just Lansingburgh, but may cover all areas of New York State, other States and even foreign countries. While 1,231 of the names showed no indication of residence, those records where the residence was reported are of interest as they show 232 individual cities, towns and villages throughout New York State. In addition, residence of either the bride or groom was identified as being in 33 states other than New York and even in 5 foreign countries. Hopefully you will find some of your ancestors in this new data base or in the almost 300,000 Irish AND Non-Irish names listed in the various transcription projects on the TIGS website. 1. [NYWESTCH] 2015 The New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade
    2. mizscarlettny via
    3. It's another grand day for NYC Irish! [NBC-TV NOW!] Historically, The New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade began in 1762 where American Irish could flaunt wearin' of the green, without reprisals from the English. That's before Penal Laws, Easter 1916, and any RCs gleaned the right to vote...almost anywhere! http://www.nycstpatricksparade.org/about.html The original route was in lower Manhattan, closer to the original St. Pat's Cathedral (now Basilica) on Mulberry and Mott Streets. I figured that my earliest arriving Danny O'Connell heard the parade from Chrystie Street as he passed over in 1897.

    2. mizscarlettny via
    3. Thanks to Mark Lomax in California for thes heads up on TV tonight! We utilize the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) in our research and many have cited incidents of not being able to find family members in these open records. There are two issues here: l) TV tonight &, (2) the future of the SSDI # 1) Tonight on "60 Minutes" 7pm eastern, CBS-TV channel 2 in Metro NYC The show is addressing large numbers of deceased people who are not listed in the SSDI, and large numbers of living Americans who are listed in it. The 60 Minutes website states that "Errors in the government's Death Master File are costing taxpayers billions and creating nightmares for those wrongly declared dead." # 2) Our access to the SSDI is threatened to end. The proposal is that select people will certify to access the SSDI by taking an exam. The excuse given is that these SS #s have been stolen. It's no wonder when too many online sources use ours, including department store charge cards. Dick Eastman on the proposal to end our access to the SSDI. http://blog.eogn.com/2014/12/30/death-master-file-request-for-comments-on-proposed-final-rule/ TO DO....Read, ignore the deadline date, and make public comments> http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2014-12-30/pdf/2014-30199.pdf Barb

Cannot help you with this wanted date, but I do recall maybe 3 decades ago in my church hearing a wonderful talk by theDutch woman and who was wife of the Dutch Houseowner in whose home Anne Frank’s family was secreted—along with others. It was fascinating to hear this tragic story from a viewpoint of rescuers.I do believe that she toured some parts of the YSA in order to tell the story.
