Even 1st cousins do not have a "perfect" match. Expanding the YDNA to 111 level generates a much better solution for generation connection analysis. I can understand if you already know your complete Spencer lineage that you don't feel a need. However, the many of us out there searching for our specific Spencer lineage would benefit immensely by having all of the YDNA levels expanded to 111 level. I do know my Spencer(s) belong to the 4 brothers from England, but can not find the direct lineage from 1806. All we know is our Lucius Spencer was born 06 JUL 1806 in NY. We assume he was born in eastern NY and migrated to Genesee County NY just before or after his marriage in late 1820(s), where he stayed until his death 05 MAY 1868. However the assumption could be incorrect. But we have been unsuccessful to connect him to any of the Spencer(s) in western NY in 1806 time frame. Yes all this info is out there. It's available in many other places besides Ancestry, as Patricia notes. Every vital statistic about each and every one of you is far easier to obtain than you might think. Welcome to the age of Computers. This is something that has been on Ancestry for more than a decade. This is not news. I've been doing this kind of research for my family tree without Ancestry for years. It's all out there, if you want to search for it. Or pay for it. So, it's not really *just* Ancestry. They are just making use of existing databases. Why? No, Brian, my posting was not the result of a hoax, nor hearsay. After 15 continual years on Ancestry, and a professional degree in research methodology, I know the difference between what is officially considered "public information" and what is not. Ancestry invaded my privacy, and it is not exemplified in "family trees," but accessible via their research engines. These happen to be RC records. My elderly then living parents [mid 80s y/o] had personal data posted thru Ancestry and not through trees. I don't and won't post my 37 years of genealogical research or tree online, and I do not store it in a cloud. Why? You cannot trust how your individual work will be altered or misrepresented. Add to that that Ancestry keeps changing hands...it was once owned by the LDS church that at least had some scruples about the privacy oif the living...now it is just business, and profit makng business...folks that don't understand [or care?] about adhering to basic genealogical principles Several million U.S. federal employees just had their personnel files compromised by a hacker because these records are computerized, but because they are accessible online. Even today it is the most populous borough in NYC. Brooklyn also retains a distinctive and (some say) assertive culture. Since the mid-1800s the Irish in this borough of churches have exerted a major influence on its way of life. Simultaneously, Brooklyn has provided refuge and opportunities to Irish immigrants and their descendants seeking better ways of life. In doing so, it has impacted the Irish who settled and worked there. Dr. Stephen Sullivan has four degrees in history from Columbia University. He has been honored numerous times as one of the nation's top high school teachers by groups such as the Organization of American Historians, the National Teachers Hall of Fame, the Walt Disney American Teacher Award Program, and the U.S. Department of Education. He is known for the success of his students in research competitions like the Intel Science Talent Search, the National Endowment for the Humanities Younger Scholars program, and American Psychological Association poster sessions. Stephen Sullivans work has been published in journals such as New York Irish History and the Journal of Urban History.
