His father was also James Malone and his mother was Ellen Dempsey -- both born in Ireland. I think that James (the father) was a stonecutter. This information is from a newspaper clipping I found. James Daniel settled in Klamath County, Oregon about 1878. I do not know anything more about James and Ellen, except that they had one daughter, Mary -- I do not know of any other children. I thank anyone who can help me on this "brick wall". Lois M. Bozarth wayloboz@gmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Do they now have a list of persons buried there? We are looking for great grandfather Phillip Boylan who died in NY city on May 5,1868. Assume he was buried in a Potters Field because they were poor, and we couldn't find him in any other cemetery. Since prisoners from Rikers Island bury the dead here, NYC Dept of Corrections had sole access to the island. July 19th is the first day that NYC will offer round trip ferry rides to family members, then escort them to grave sites. Each ferry holds fifty people and reservations are required through the NYC Dept. of Corrections. BACKSTORY...This Bronx County island was purchased by the City of New York on 27 May 1868. It was used as a Union Army POW camp, a psych institution similar to the one on Blackwell's [today's Roosevelt Island], a TB sanatorium, potter's field, 19th c. boys' reformatory and, most recently, Phoenix House drug rehab. The first known interment was that of NYC's Louisa VanSlyke, age 24, DOD 10 April 1869. Hart Island is still active as "City Cemetery." 800,000 buried here since the inception as NYC Potter's Field and almost 65,000 since 1980. This is the largest "known" mass grave site in the world. NYC GENEALOGICAL IMPACT The American term "potter's field" has a Biblical derivation and is traditionally a burial ground for the indigent, "strangers" and unclaimed people. This includes, but is not limited to, our impoverished immigrant ancestors who arrived in NYC after May 1868. Note: Ancestors who were "inmates" at Blackwell's Island* [later Welfare, now Roosevelt] and Wards Island may be interred at Hart Island, no matter what building they lived in. Note: Your ancestor's admission card to Blackwell's may state that he has no living relatives; this was intentionally misleading so that no one was financially responsible for the bill. Note: NYC Death Certificates may state the burial place as "Potter's Field," or "City Cemetery," or "New York City Home--B.I." or just "B.I." I've seen all versions. I especially notice these place names on death certificates found via LDS aka "Family Search." [1]ancestry This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: clarkshire1942 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board: [2]Click here Message Board Post: I am the eldest daughter of Cathy who replied to you earlier above. (If I am correct on your connection to Eugene; this makes me your 1st cousin, 2 times removed) Eugene Choquette was the son of Joseph Choquette and Lucretia Aubrey. He married at least 4 times: His first marriage was to Mary Jane Tremblay, daughter of Micheal Tremblay and Melvina Perron, on 16 August 1903 in Central Falls Rhode Island. From this marriage he had 3 children: Eugene Walter Choquette, Joseph Choquette, and Raymond Walter Choquette. This marriage ended in divorce. His second marriage was to Constance Dedrickson, daughter of Hans P Dedrickson and Anna Waller, on 17 May 1918 in Hampshire, Massachusetts. It is unknown if there were any children from this marriage. On the marriage record his parents names are listed, this is listed as a second marriage, his occupation was sailor, his residence is listed as Miles City, Montana. I see from your posts that they had a daughter. I would love to get more information on your line to add to our tree. His third marriage was to Gertrude St. John on 10 June 1921 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. From this marriage he had 3 children: Arthur Choquette, Lillie Choquette, and Bertha Choquette. This marriage likely ended in divorce as Gertrude and the children are living alone in New York in the 1940 census. His fourth marriage was to Nellie (Smith) Murch, daughter of John Smith and Eliza Clayton, on 1 July 1943 in Erie County, Pennsylvania. The marriage record lists his parents names, his occupation is machinist, his residence is Rochester New York, He states he was married twice before (but it was actually 3 times) on January 18 1906 and July 7 1921. It states his birth date is March 2 1883 and he was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Dorothy Anderson, born 15 Apr 1770, New York, dau. of Loyalist Jonathan Anderson and Mary Henderson. Her father's will calls her Dolly Duzenburg. The parents and some children moved to Nova Scotia. I believe she stayed in New York but I have no other information about her. Can any one add to this? Cheryl

I've "rescued" and old photograph of Maude Louise STRAYER which was taken at the Nast Studio in Denver, CO. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Maude listed as 3 months old and weighing 13 lbs. at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Maude and her family: Maude Louise STRAYER was b. 30 Oct 1894 in Denver, CO to parents Mary A. S. HALLER (b. Jan 1858 in Fayette Co. IL) and John Wesley STRAYER (b. 9 Jan 1846 in Berkeley Co. VA). Maude also had a brother, James C. STRAYER b. 23 Jan 1901 in New York City, NY. This was the third marriage for John Wesley STRAYER, his first wife was Margaret B. HILL with whom he had two children including, George Elmer; and Olive L. STRAYER born in 1872 and 1875, both in Carroll Co., MO. His second marriage was to Anna R. "Annie" BLISS with whom he had a son Edgar C. STRAYER b. 1885 in Missouri. Maude died in Anacortes, WA in Nov 1981. Maude traveled extensively including trips to England, France, Scotland, and Norway with her job as an Educator at the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Census records provide the following details: 1900 census of Ridgefield, NJ: John W STRAYER, age 52, born Mar 1848, married 15 years, born VA, parents born VA, Real Estate Mary N.
