Barbara, Son Thomas had 4 wives, the second of whom was Ann Turney, sister of Rebecca Turney. Are you familiar with the Grenville McKenzie manuscript?? If not you can log on to Westchester Historical Society and find out how to order the Sherwood pp. They are pp 610, 611, 612, 613, 614 and 618a. I found them quite accurate for my Sherwoods in comparing them to my family records and my other sources. I've also found MacKenzie a good start for lots of my other Westchester ancestor info. The WHS charges a pittance for the pp and the turnaround time is very quick. Thanks, Maureen. I see I have you listed as a source for some of my information. I just this week read about the Grenville McKenzie manuscript when I tripped onto the WHS website, and made a mental note to join. Only problem is the short hours when their library is open. I will order the pages as you suggest. I see I do have 4 wives for son Thomas, but I have them listed as Sarah Wheeler, Ann Turney, Elizabeth ?, and Sarah Hide. Which one should be Rebecca Turney? I only have children with Sarah Wheeler, namely Sarah and Thomas. The only sourcwe I have listed for this family is Donald Lines Jacobus, compiler, History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield, 2 vols in 3, (Fairfield, Conn: Daughters of American Revolution, 1930: reprinted Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 11976), Vol. I, p. 548. Rereading your message below, I see that Rebecca Turner married Thomas's half-brother Stephen. Am I now reading it correctly? Barbara Barbara L. de Mare, Esq. Although my Reynolds lines are almost as confused as my Sherwood ones, I would be most interested in the Reynolds Cemetery. If I recall correctly, i originally had a Rebecca Sherwood married to Jonathan Reynolds. Their daughter Rebecca married Thomas Hobby. The difficulty was with Rebecca Sherwood, and i have since disconnected her from the line, partly becaus the ages were wrong and partly as a result of the following article: Gordon L. Remington, FUGA, ""Rebecca Revisited: The Unidentified Wives of Angell Huested and Jonathan Reynolds of Greenwich, Connecticut" The American Genealogist, vol. 73 ," July 1998, pp. 201-06. I now have Jonathan Reynolds married to an unknown Rebecca. To complicate matters further, i am also descended from Angel Huestad and his first wife; thus I am descended from both of the husbands of the unidentified Rebecca. The best source i have for any of this is Donald Lines Jacobus, compiler, History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield, 2 vols in 3,, (Fairfield, Conn: Daughters of American Revolution, 1930: reprinted Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 11976), Vol. I, p. 317. Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. Barbara L. de Mare, Esq. I may be descended from the Thomas Sherwood born 1586 in England. This line is a little shaky, as all of the pieces don't really fit. Some alleged persons in the line are the wrong ages to be where they are. According to my database, this Thomas had a son Thomas who married Ann Turney. I don't have a Rebecca Turney. If anyone has good information on the Sherwood line, I would be most interested. Barbara Barbara L. de Mare, Esq. On Route 35, just east of Route 121. All inscriptions copies, all stones charted by R. Cowles, approx 400 stones, according to "A History of the Town of Lewisboro"
You're absolutely right, Charles.....and the active participants of these lists make them what they are. I have found so much information on my Rootsweb Lists because of people who take the time to post and to share with others. That's why I try to do the same. Either that or "blood cousins"!!! Since I am a direct descendent of Thomas Sherwood of Stratford/Fairfield, I really would be a blood cousin of others so descended, but if a brother of my ancester Sherwood, along the way, married a Staples, then those Staples are my apron string cousins. Let's see---Edward Fairchild went to Newtown about 1707. He is my ancester and his farm stayed in the family until 1924, etc. I think his brother? or uncle? went to Redding and thence he started the felting industry there and the famous hat factory in East Norwalk??? These Fairchilds were descended from marriages with a Wheeler and a Beach. On the other hand, My Sherwoods descend from Issac of Hulls Farms to his son David to his daughter Sarah who married John Carley, etc. Issac, later in Westchester, descends somehow from Thomas Sherwood of Stratford. It is our family tradition to say that Thomas Sherwood and Thomas Fairchild( they married the Seabrook sisters) were merchants who purchased Milford,CT, from the Indians for the King. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara de Mare" <barbarademare@yahoo.com> To: <nywestch@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 06, 2007 7:38 PM Subject: Re: [NYWESTCH] GEOGRAPHY EXPERT > We must be apron strings cousins also. Charles, I clicked on the URL you provided and started to explore. In the past hour I have found many ancestors. It truly is a Treasure Trove that I had no idea existed. There is much more to peruse. Hi Barbera, I am directly descended from Thomas Staples, one of the founders of Fairfield. Thomas' grandson Thaddeus (my 5th gr grandfather) married Sarah Sherwood , dau of John Sherwood and Mary Walker. One or two of Thaddeus' sons lived in Newtown. Sons David and Oliver moved to Ulster County, NY in 1795. They carried the Sherwood name (as middle name of sons) thru the mid 1900's (that I know of). I found that the Westchester Archives was running a little spread on the "Pill Factory" and the old building on Water Street has been listed as an "Historical Building" by the Park Service. The Dr. Benjamin Brandreth that came over from South Africa with the Martin's seems to be the person who founded the factory. www.westchesterarchives.com/ht/muni/ossVill/brandreth.htm Charles
Bruce, If no one closer volunteers, I would be happy to transcribe the pages you have. If you want to send it to me: Carol Heap, 7029 Pioneer Rd. West Palm Beach, FL 33413 Thanks, Carol L. Heap FL
Charles, I have no need for this paper, and in the interest of genealogy I felt I should offer it to someone before I disposed of it. I'm not up to transcribing the various articles and was hoping I could send it to someone whom would be willing to do so. I've been posting to other mail list's various articles from various newspapers that were saved by my grandmother and mother. I posted surnames and event and offered to send original's or scanned copies, which I did. Others asked me to transcribe them so that information was available in the future. I could post, and reply as I have been, but without transcribing, however, in the end it will be disposed of. Bruce > Message: 5 > Date: Tue, 6 Feb 2007 10:46:35 -0500 > From: "C. Jan, You may not have to go back to Stanford .... Did you know that Google has 7 million US patents online? and they're searchable! Go to: http://www.google.com/patents/ I put in "John Ormerod" and got 88 hits! Hope this helps, Maureen in NJ where it's in the single digits, again On 2/2/07, Jan Miller <jgrellim@sbcglobal.net> wrote: > My Great Grandfather, John Ormerod, is the patentee of Patent #122642--for an "Improvement in Brick-Machines". > I have a copy of the written description and a drawing of same, including his signature and those of his 2 witnesses--C.
