    3. Hi Joan, I have not done ANY research on the Turneys at all as yet. The Turneys that Barbara and I mentioned are very early ones .....back in the 1600s in CT. If I were you I'd go back from the Peekskill Turney family. Did you try the 1870 census?? 1860?? Neighboring towns?? Death certificates too should be easily available for those death dates and some have a wealth of pertinent info. Please let me know what you find. 3. Well said, Debby. However for those of us who participate by WRITING as well as reading it is not always possible ...or necessary....to use so formal a format. That said, I must also point out that some of my best leads have been found in the "fine print".....including back in the nineties a whole new line I didn't even know about. 3. Actually most lists ask that submitters insert the surname or topic one is inquiring about in the subject line. In the content of the message, we normally use CAPITAL letters for surnames. This format facilitates reading; one can quickly review the query. It is also most helpful if the submitter includes dates and/or time period along with locations/states/provinces, etc. Most researchers are on several mailing lists and receive a lot of messages, providing the above info helps to ensure that we don't overlook queries/info that may be relevant to our research or be able to provide assistance to fellow researchers. 1. [NYWESTCH] Peekskill and Patents
    2. Jan Miller
    3. My questions on patents and Peekskill generated a LOT of good information which --as thanks--I pass along. Even if you don't know that your ancestor had a patent, plug his name in and you might find something new! Each has a written description, a scale drawing, a number, the date of application and date of filing--and the signature of the inventor and his witnesses, so there are 'extras'. I like the personal signatures of the inventor--makes them so real! First: the patent HQs near Stanford I physically visited to locate and view the films available was called SRI-3 (the 3 being the tiny 3 symbol for cubed). that site is no longer in 'business' and it's holdings are now part of the Sunnyvale Public Library in Sunnyvale, CA. They can be accessed by acceptable Library Card, by name and patent number if you desire. Phone # 408/730-7300 for better information. Second: mjmann was kind enough to suggest http://www.google.com/patents/ -- then insert the name. I found more than I ever thought. Copies available for $3. each and entire detail copies available for $25, each and can be ordered on line. Thanks! suemaxwell, RickVT, Wolfpack, Barbara de la Mare, Snowstar, Clarkridge, mjmann--et al! Try inserting the name of your ancestor/inventor. I stopped looking at 20 ascribed to John Ormerod [self and those he assigned to J. Matthews Bottling factory]. In addition I found 'extra' Ormerods from Lancaster, ENG who also became patent-holders....more to do! Jan Miller jgrellim@sbcglobal.net

    3. My ancestor, Rev. Denton KEELER (1789-1886,) a Methodist circuit rider, worked up and down the Hudson River communities and was living in Westchester County at the time of his death. One of his daughters, Catharine (Cir1817-1872,) had a daughter that married into the Cross River REYNOLDS family. A few years ago while living in Manhattan I corresponded with a lady by the name of Jane Fox, a REYNOLDS descendant. I did visit that Cross River cemetery in 2002 and recorded some of the stones. If you want what I have I would be happy to share if it will help. I also can give you Jane's email address off the newsgroup.
