Elizabeth, thank you for your reply. I am looking into the Stam. Cross's. I see that a early John Cross was one of the first settlers in the Bedford area. He later settled in Windsor, Ct. but it looks like he is the same Stam. line. Didn't know abt. the Nathaniel in Bedford yet..I have just started looking more into this family. Peter is on the 1790 Bedford census. I have to look at the whole census for Cross's though, I just have Peters info. He was widowed by then. His name is also listed in Simeon Brady's will . Simeon must of owned land that was Peters at one time and Simeon willed it to his son Ruben. This will was in Salem in 1806. Simeon's marriage #2 was to a Hannah M. Harford. No I haven't tried to Google Elgin Benson Harford but I'm pretty sure he the Egbert B. Harford b. 1788 d.1831 Greene Co. NY. mar. Maria Bogardus. I have posted this on the GenForum and other Harford lists..no replies. As I mentioned this bible page is hard to read. Peter's and Ephraim's father was a Thomas Harford (Herford)...b. abt. 1723 in Ire. d. 3 Feb. 1797 Salem, West. Co. NY. His wife June d. a month later...This is from the Church of Christ records in Salem. Thomas was a tanner and in the French & Indian war as well as the Rev. War with his sons. I have Thomas's will and Inventory...also name of unit in the Fr. & Indian war and thats abt. all. They had several dau. as well as Peter and Ephraim... I would be very interest if this Thomas was mentioned in the WESTCHESTER PATRIARCHS book... Thank you again for your help. Sandee
If anyone is planning on checking the tombstones for Paul, could I put in a request for a search for my great-grandmother's burial site. Her name was Mary MCDONNELL BLAKE and she was buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery on 20 March 1896. Since the older records were destroyed by a 1920 fire, the people at St. Joseph's determined that she probably would have been buried in one of the older sections of the cemetery - St. Henry, St. Rose, or St. Anthony. I know that the cemetery is quite large, but I would appreciate any help in locating her grave site. Thank you very much!! Sandee, WESTCHESTER PATRIARCHS by Norman Davis, p 63 "A Genealogical Dictionary of Westchester County, NY, Families Prior to 1755" The most recent Crosses mentioned include John Cross, b 16 Jan 1707/08, son of Nathaniel Cross and his second wife, Hannah Knapp. John might be Deborah's father. Nathaniel resided in Bedford in 1681 but then returned to Stamford in 1782. I have always been told to check Stamford area for any Westchester people. These are just hints, not answers. Have you googled Elgin Benson? Peter must be on the 1790 census. Are there any Crosses around? I have forgotten now whether you know Peter's father. There are Thomas HANFORDs in the same book. Elizabeth <Elizabeth...these are Peter and Deborah Cross Harford's children: Elizabeth b. 10 Sept 1779 Clara b. 23 Sept 1781 Bertha b. 26 Oct 1783 d. 05 Nov 1783 Thomas b. 20 Apr 1785 Elgin Benson b.19 June 1787 (this name was hard to read on family bible page) John Cross b. 17, Jan 1790 d. 31 Dec 1882 this is my 3x gr grandfather he married Azubah Wood Peter went on the have 7 more children by wife #2 Eunice Ballard. These names were taken from a bible page used to obtain Peter's pension for Rev. War. Thank you for your interest. Maybe Knowlton's connected? Peter's brother was Ephraim Harford of Boutonville area. Paul, " This may be a big request, but I have to ask. I am looking for 3 (maybe 4) Sabols that are supposedly buried at St. Josephs Cemetery in Yonkers. However, the good man at the cemetery with whom I spoke said records before 1916 were destroyed by fire. If anyone is going out to this cemetery, can they glance around the neighboring tombstones to see if there is any of these 3 folks nearby and if so maybe snap a picture for me. No one in the family knows where in St. Joseph's they would be anymore and no one really lives close to Yonkers anymore. " Just a suggestion, have you contacted the local genealogy society to if they or the historial society have transcribed the headstone in this cemetery? My local society here in Florida has done 3 cemeteries and we sell the books to raise funds, we will also do a look-up for a small fee. Thanks, Carol L. Heap,FL

You're welcome, Bill. The WHS is usually very prompt too in sending requested material. Be sure to ask for pp 610,611,612,613,614 and 618a. If the request doesn't contain the page numbers you will get charged for a lookup. Part of their website shows how to look up the page numbers for those people who don't have them already.
