    2. Jeanne C Appel
    3. Regarding the SCHULZ family that lived on Cortland Ave., in the the Bronx in 1880's. Is there any chance that your SCHULZ name was often confused with SCHUTZ name? I have a MICHAEL or JACOB SCHUTZ and JOHANNA living on Cortland Ave. JOHANNA SCHUTZ was the mother of CATHERINA/CATHERINE SCHUTZ who married a PETER HUDSON. In 1860 they lived side by side and then after that I can't find them anywhere on the census'. By 1880 PETER and CATHERINE were living on Cortland Ave. and he died on the corner of N.E. corner of Morris Ave. and 151st. St., the Bronx. Peter and Catherine Hudson had several children, Catherine, Caroline, Christina, Margaret, Jacob and a Mary. The only other information I have on Johanna Schutz is that she is buried at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, along side her son in law, Peter Hudson. I do not know what became of Michael. Just thought I would see if these names meant anything to the person looking for Schulz family. Jeanne C. Appel

    3. Does anyone in your family have an Amanda Melvina Knapp who went astray? She's my brick wall. All I know is that she was born in 1825. One source says she was born in New York (yeah, that narrows it down) and another says Ohio. She married Aquilla Gunnison in 1846 and died in Wisconsin in 1858. It's probably a long shot, but I thought I'd ask. 2. Benita, This would be wonderful! I hope to get back to NY again in the next few years but would love to know if these buildings are still there, you never know when something here today is gone tomorrow. If you have a digital camera a photo or two or be great, I would be happy to pay for your gas. There is no urgency but I didn't want to wait until it was too late. I just found some of these addresses on death certificates and census, I never knew my great-grandparents & my Grandfather Hirsch was a police officer shot and killed in the line of duty in 1932 so I never knew him either. I am trying to fill in the gaps. I am guessing that the stores had apartments over them, they may not have. Thanks for your kindness. You are a gene-angel. I work near the Bronx addresses you list - I could drive by one day and take a look at the buildings. I did that a few years back when my elderly aunt gave me the address where she was born in the Bronx - she described the building and it is still standing! ( but the haunted house around the corner was no longer standing) The Mount Vernon addresses are also not very far - so let me know how urgently you need this info and I will try and search for you. Benita Thanks, Carol L. Heap, Florida

    1. [NYWESTCH] BLAKE Marriage Record
    2. My grandmother and her siblings were baptized in Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington in the mid 1880s and 1890s. I have no idea where my great-grandparents, Thomas BLAKE and Mary MCDONNELL, were married (the church's marriage records don't go back that far, so I don't know if they were married there or not). Should I start my search in the Irvington courthouse, then try Greenburgh, then expand to Westchester County court records? Does this research avenue make sense when the only piece of information I have on my great-grandparents is the baptismal records for their children? I'd appreciate any advice on the best route I should take. Thank you very much!! 3. I am looking for ancestral information on Cornelius Nagle/Nagel, born in Westchester in 1797; he married Catherine Ann Gansvoorst Leggett in 1844; he was a lawyer in NYC, and died in Brooklyn in 1870. He mostly spelled his name Nagle, although I think he is Dutch. Two families- the Dykmans and the Nagles were the original settlers and land holders in NYC in the Westchester area, and there was a house of the Nagle's called The Century House, near the Robert Morris house in earlier years; it was near Kingsbridge. He might be related to my gg grandmother Catherine Nagle from Ireland; it is possible that she met her husban, Shubael Edgar Swain, a lawyer like Cornelius, through Cornelius; the two men had law offices next to each other. Both families are also tied up with the Leggetts. It is a real puzzle, but situationally looks like a big clue. I can't find info about his ancestors.
