Mike, At my subscription level (blue), The Godfrey Memorial Library offers access to four digital newspaper archives. The one that I use the most is News Bank. News Bank offers 157 digital newspaper titles for the state of New York. These titles were each published for varying periods of time between 1730 and 1860. Of those 157 titles, News Bank offers 13 titles published in the City of Albany; 8 published in Ballston Spa; 3 published in Salem; 1 published in Saratoga Springs; one published in Troy; and, one published in Schenectady. For really early newspapers coverage for Washington County, I have usually ended up reading papers published in Albany and New York City. I have never used the other three newspaper archives, so I do not know how extensive those other archives are. Hope that this helps. Leslie
Wow – That is really good. Since it has three from Salem, I’ll have to check that out. Thanks again for the tip on this. - Mike -----Original Message----- From: nywashin-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nywashin-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of LBPotter@comcast.net Sent: Thursday, February 19, 2009 3:15 PM To: nywashin@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYWASHIN] Washington County Research Tools Mike, At my subscription level (blue), The Godfrey Memorial Library offers access to four digital newspaper archives.
