A few years back I checked with St. Mary's in Granville. They have records there for their parish and Our Lady of Mount Carmel that was in Middle Granville. I was told that the records for St. Patrick's the early mission church do not exist. I'm not sure how complete the records are. I couldn't find my Great Grandparents marriage records but found a few of their relatives. My Grandfather though he was baptized in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church could never locate his baptismal certificate there. You could contact them and see what is available. They also have the records for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel cemetary. Last I heard they were not transcribed into any database but like I said it has been a few years. I wasn't allow to go through them myself but the secretary looked them up and was able to make copies for me. Depending on when your ancestors were born you may not find anything. I know at one time Masses were said in people's homes by a traveling priest. My grandfather had at his home, when I was growing up, the dresser that the priest used as an altar. I hope this helps, Margo
Hi Margo. Thanks. I contact the church today and they said they would look next week. I was curious about St Patrick's - as I know it was a separate cemetery in Granville - and it appeared to be mostly Irish. I don't think I have any relatives buried there that I have found. Do you know about when the church "closed"? I have not searched anything at St Patricks but can tell you that Our Lady of Mount Carmel has a high number of Irish names. Found my great grandparents there who came from Ireland. Dennis J McLaughlin and Margaret Alice O'Shaughnessy.
