    3. With a quick search, I found these in Washington County and close by. There was a David Wakely m. 2/21/1818 to Phebe Hasbrouk, both of Poughkeepsie, in Washing (Dut. Co.); Samuel Thurston, Esq. officiated. There was a Robert Wakely in the 1790 census listed in Hebron, 1-4-2. The actual copy appears a little questionable. Could also be "Walmsly", but the index says "Wakely." In the 1800 census: Robert Wakeley Hebron, Washington, NY (Perhaps the same as above) In the 1810 census: Robert Wakely Hebron, Washington, NY Samuel Wakely Thurman, Washington, NY In the 1820 census: John Wakeley Hebron,Washington,NY John Wakeley White Creek,Washington,NY Joseph Wakeley Hebron,Washington,NY Nathan Wakeley Hebron,Washington,NY In the 1830 census: John Wakely Hebron, Washington, New York Robert Wakely Hebron, Washington, New York In 1840, there were none in Washington County but there was: Joseph Wakley Johnsburgh, Warren, New York In 1850, there were none in Washington County. Warren County was created from part of Washington County in 1813: John Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1815 New York John D Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1848 New York John J Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1850 New York Joseph Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1793 Scotland Martha L Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1826 New York Mary A Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1848 New York Mary A Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1818 New York Nancy Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1793 Scotland Robert Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1830 New York Susan Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1847 New York Susanna Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1825 New York Thomas Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1844 New York Thomas Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1818 New York William D Wakeley Johnsburgh, Warren, NY b abt 1822 New York In 1860: Clark Wakely Hartford, Washington, NY 54 b abt 1806 New York Hannah M Wakely Hartford, Washington, NY 37 b abt 1823 New York Hannah L Wakely Hartford, Washington, NY 13 b abt 1847 New York Emeline G Wakely Hartford, Washington, NY 10 b abt 1850 New York In 1870: John Wakeley Argyle, Washington, NY b abt 1815 New York Luiza Wakeley Argyle, Washington, NY b abt 1815 New York Luiza J Wakeley Argyle, Washington, NY b abt 1848 Vermont Harvey Wakeley Argyle, Washington, NY b abt 1857 New York Clark Wakely Granville, Washington, NY b abt 1810 New York Hannah Wakely Granville, Washington, NY b abt 1815 New York William M C Wakely Kingsbury, Washington, NY b abt 1818 New York Susan J Wakely Kingsbury, Washington, NY b abt 1840 Massachusetts Isaac Wakely Kingsbury, Washington, NY b abt 1852 New York John Wakely Kingsbury, Washington, NY b abt 1854 New York Ellen Wakely Kingsbury, Washington, NY b abt 1858 New York Elisa Wakely Kingsbury, Washington, NY b abt 1863 New York Ada Wakely Kingsbury, Washington, NY b abt 1864 New York Robert Wakely Kingsbury, Washington, NY b abt 1865 New York Allie Wakely Kingsbury, Washington, NY b abt 1869 New York If any of these look interesting to you, let me know and I will get whatever other info about them that I can find. The earliest colonial Wakelys (with 5 or 6 different spellings) were in Wethersfield CT in the 1600's. If your family was here that early, and if you can find a genealogy of that family, you may find mention of one or more who "moved to NY" or some such notation that might help you. One of my families is named Whelpley. They also were in CT in the 1600's and I have seen some instances where the Wakelys and Whelpleys were lumped together in some research and there were even some instances where they considered part of the same family in couple genealogy books. But, I have not found any documents that connect the family members. I got pretty familiar with the Wakely surname because of the similarity of spelling, time frame and location in CT and sorting them all out.
