    3. My Irish-Catholic Great-grandparents, Thomas and Mary Jane McClusky (sic) appear in the 1870 census living in East Greenwich. My grandfather, John Henry McCluskey, was reportedly born in New York state on November 28, 1871. Are any records available which might confirm his birth/baptism? Thomas McCluskey and Mary Jane Devlin had been recently wed and their marriage may also be locally recorded. Their next child was born in Iowa so their stay in East Greenwich was of short duration. I would appreciate any assistance in locating these records. Mike in WA

    3. Hi Mike, There will not be any civil official vital records as the state did not require them until 1880. You might get lucky with some Catholic church records but I do not know if any exist for this area and time period. Someone else on this list might be able to advise you on this matter. Do you know when they came? They might be on the NYS census for 1865, or even earlier maybe. 3. I believe Thomas was a very recent immigrant although I have not been able to find him on any passenger list. Do you know when they came?
