    1. Re: [NYWASHIN] Birth date for Benjamin Pitts

    3. I agree with the person who wrote about the fact that it was possible that Samuel and Elizabeth might have had two sons named Benjamin---the younger Benjamin being given the same name as an older sibling who died in infancy. I have seen that in my own family history. There is another possibility. I do not know your sources for the dates, but if it is source other than a primary source, for instance an old genealogy that has been written by another family historian for instance, they may have picked up on a later Christening date and used that as a dob. People assume sometimes that all babies were baptized almost immediately after birth, but that was not always the case. Sometimes Christenings were put off until a clergyman was available, winter weather abated, etc., and then perhaps two or three children in the family might be baptized at one time. So it is very possible that the dates are for the same child----one being the actual dob, the other being a date for a Christening. I suggest you go back and check your sources again and see if you can find anything that indicates that possibility. I have two dates but of course he couldn't have been born twice. 30 Dec 1811; and 12 Sept 1813. His parents were Samuel Pitts/Elizabeth Hamilton. Can anyone help me out with this?
