    3. Hello all, Between Charles Moore and Peggy Jenks most of the cemeteries in Washington Co. have been recorded, I say most because at least a couple of the farm cemeteries have been lost. I personally was searching for a cemetery, an old time said my ancestors were buried in. I couldn't find any trace of it so I flagged down a man on a tractor and asked if there was a cemetery on his property. He said " there used to be but the owner before me plowed the stones over and there's no sign of them now". Sad. There are cases where only field stones were used as markers and they too have been lost. A group of girl scouts cleaned up a cemetery in Greenwich in which only a few stones were standing, they found a lot of stones that were down buried and broken and were able to list some that were not recored and corrected a couple that were recorded incorrectly. There is a great need for the old cemeteries to be restored but it isn't something towns say they can take care of, stating the lack of man-power or the funds to keep them up. Not all cemeteries are on line so if my office can help you with a lookup let me know. We cannot do research for you without the required fee, but we can search our cemetery records. You can email me wchist@co.washington.ny.us my office is only open on Tues. and Weds. so please take that into consideration. Loretta Bates Wash. Co. Deputy Historian
