    3. Hello I just signed up to this mailing list - I'm trying to confirm or deny this info on Dr. Orange DOUGLASS.  So 1) is anyone else researching this family??  2) can someone tell me if there is a list of students for the Castleton Medical School in the 1800s?  3) if there was or is a monument for Orange Douglas in Granville, Washington Co, NY?   I haven't been able to find him on any censuses.  Did New York state have censuses that early?    thanks for your time and help! Julie in CA      The Nicholas White Family By Thomas Jackson Lothrop (c) 1902 - GoogleBooks or HeritageQuest page 271 3484.  i.  Orange8 DOUGLASS, b. in  Wallingford, [Rutland Co.] VT., June 10, 1806.  After removing to West Rutland, Vt., he taught school for some time, and subsequently attended the Castleton Medical College (probably).  He began practice in Granville, [Washington Co] N.Y., with Dr. Mulford.  He gave promise of usefulness in his profession.  He soon after died and was buried in Granville, NY.  Some years after a monument was erected to his memory.  He was unmarried.

    3. The Nicholas White Family By Thomas Jackson Lothrop (c) 1902 - GoogleBooks or HeritageQuest The Nicholas WHITE Family is a new book to me. Does anyone have a copy of it? Or where online I might find the book? My Great-Great-Grandfather, George Henry WHITE, was reported to have been born 24 Mar 1826 in Delaware Co., N.Y. I have found no other 'evidence' that he was born or even lived in Delaware Co., N.Y. Very frustrating. George had a younger brother, Warren WHITE, who lived and died in Harrison Co., IA. Warren was also a soldier in the Civil War. I believe they had an older brother, John WHITE, not sure where John might have died. George Henry WHITE's descendants lived & died in Oregon & Washington states. Out here, we did not know that their parents were: Jesse WHITE b. 1782 Hillsborough, N.H. m. 1806 N.H. to Jane ROBBE b. 1780. Some think the grand-parents were: John WHITE & Elizabeth SMITH and William ROBBE & Elenor CRATON; but I have no details on them. George Henry WHITE m. 4 Apr 1848 Mason Co., IL. to Eliza Emeline REEDER. George d. 16 Feb 1895 in Sherman Co., OR. His widow d. 14 Jun 1907 in Spokane, WA. Both were buried in the old Methodist Cemetery at Wasco, Oregon. Wasco, the town, is in Sherman County, Oregon. Yes, there is a Wasco County, Oregon. And in the early days, Wasco County was huge. 3. Castleton State College will not share student records or confirm a person was a student, no matter how far back they go. I tried to obtain confirmation of a relative of mine who was student there in the 1860's and was repeatedly told I had to have written ok of the student. Orange Hyde Douglass, June 10, 1806 - Dec. 28, 1831, is buried in the Episcopal Cemetery, Granville. The cemetery is on the corner of East Main Street (Route 149) and Court Street and behind the Trinity Episcopal Church built in 1815. {Source: Granville Cemetery Inscriptions, Washington County, New York, by Margaret R. Jenks} Copy of that is available at Pember Library if you need to look further for other relatives. Check with the Clerk's office (opposite Granville High School) for birth / death certificate. The Douglass farm is located not far from the new Haynes House of Hope on Route 149 and just it is off Route 149 heading south. I don't know the name of that sideroad but someone on the list probably does.
