I've emailed Janice privately with her requested information; however, I thought it prudent to also send to the list a summary of the information that I located. It could help someone else that might be interested in this family group. Descendants of Hugh Lavery Generation No. 1 1. HUGH1 LAVERY was born 1797 in Ireland. He married ROSA UNKNOWN. Blanchard married to Russell Potter, if it was in that community. The church that they all were part of, and that John was minister at, and the time frame there. Ultimately, I'd like to know where John & Marion were born and her maiden name, and where the family went to when and if they departed Hudson Falls - or if they are buried in a cemetery there, their dates of death and where buried. That's a lot of questions. I apologize. Again, I've got a lot of information about Leta and Russell to the present generations - it is the past that I seek. Thanks. Janice
Has Leslie violated some rule none of us even knew about? I mean, everybody knows she's been researching this for years and I (along with others) have been *waiting* for years for this work to be published! She can't make a simple announcement that it's finally going to happen? It's not like she's in it for the money, or she would've written a book about something else! Leslie, if you must unsubscribe, please add me to your personal e-mail list so that I know where I may purchase the book when it's released. Sean Dixon girlsean@gmail.com
Leslie, You said you are not just doing genealogy...I don't think you can do just "genealogy" reporting the generations. You are also working on the "history" of the area...researching the history is part of the genealogy and I, for one, do not think you can have one without the other. I will be looking forward to your book to come out. And don't let a few spoil this for the rest of us that are interested. Gayle Baldwin Struska > YIKES!! NO WAY! Please, instead, unsubscribe the complainer who can't stand any variations in his or her conception of "genealogy." Long live Leslie! BTW, I was just in England and saw no (zero, nada) statues or encomiums to Gentleman Johnny Burgoyne. Daniel What does God want? "Be still and know that I am God..." I can't imagine who Leslie could have offended, she has worked laboriously for years on this project and we have all benefited from it. Removing Leslie from the list is unthinkable. When her book is published I'll be one of those in line to purchase two copies, one for me and one for the historian's office. Loretta Bates
Hi List; I cannot even imagine this is even being considered. Leslie Potter is such a plus to all of us. There is no profit in anything she is doing, just the preserving of information which will help generations of researchers. KEEP LESLIE, it would be an immense loss to us all for her to go. Please do not do that. Leslie is too valuable a person to loose from the List. I have corresponded with her for several years, and have the highest regard for her. I look forward to her messages. I hope the list administrato is not removing you! I just found out about the planned book and am very interested in your findings because my ancestor Daniel Scott lived in Saratoga County at the time. Dear List Administrator and List: Oops, I gather that I have offended someone. I apologize for offending your sensibilities. I do not apologize for my research. I have never made any secret about wanting to publish a book, which would debunk John Burgoyne's spin concerning why he lost the battle of Freeman's farm. He said that he lost because he had been forced to fight in a 'wilderness'. The cherished myth is that John Freeman's farm (Farm 3, Great Lott 16) was a 12 acre clearing in the midst of a forest primeval and no one else lived any closer than John Neilson, who rented a farm in Great Lott 13. However, from my research into primary source records, it would appear that Burgoyne's "wilderness" had a population of about 10,000 people (i.e. equal to the population of Boston in 1777) and 32 mills, one of which was a cotton mill in Washington County (not exactly a subsistence enterprise). So I have been attempting to document, who lived the the Saratoga Tax District and when did they settled there. Consequently, I have been climbing all over my family tree and everyone's family tree too, as well as, posting transcribed tax lists, deeds and other strange documents on the Washington, Saratoga, and Albany County Gen Web sites, plus the New York Archive gen web site. Although in the past, I have enjoyed sharing my research and networking with other list members, I am the first to confess that my activities are not strictly limited to pure genealogical in their scope. Accordingly, I shall cease and desist. Kindly remove my name and my e-mail address from the Washington County, NY List immediately. Thank you for your kind consideration in this matter. Very truly yours, Leslie B. Potter Glen Mills, PA
Dear List: For those of you who have been asking me when I am going to publish my research, I have good news. I am one step closer. Yesterday, I received an epistle from Heritage Books advising me that they were interested in publishing my book. It had been so long since I had sent my book proposal to Heritage Books that I had forgotten all about it. So Heritage Books' letter came as a bit of a surprise. Since I can now see a light at the end of the tunnel, the really hard work begins because I shall have deadlines to meet. I must still finish the title work, which will locate the Rev War era tenant farmers within the land grants where they resided, and map the colonial road system. However, I a still looking for additional genealogical information on the 567 taxpayers, 700 militia men and 125 Loyalists, who lived in the Saratoga Tax District. I would enjoy hearing from anyone, who had an ancestor living in present day Saratoga, Washington or Warren Counties during the Rev War and is willing to share their story with me. Thanks, Leslie Potter Glen Mills, PA
Leslie, My ancestor Jonathan Foster was in the Revolution and lived in the Saratoga Patent. He was added to the DAR Patriot Index either this year or late last year. I have published a genealogy of him and his descendants through Heritage Books. Margaret Willett Ernest ----- Original Message ----- From: "Leslie B. I am searching for information about the Rev. John Blanchard and his wife, Marion. John may have been a minister in the Hudson Falls area about 1920 - 30 as his daughter, Leta M. Blanchard, married in that community, sometime around then. I don't know what church affiliation the family had or what denomination John was a minister for. In the 1900 census, Rev. John and Marion Blanchard are resident in Eaton, Madison County, New York with their 2-year old son, Vernon W. Blanchard. Daughter Leta was not yet born. John was then 44 years of age and Marion was 25 years. I've searched Margaret Jenks books for Granville and Pawlet and do not find the family in those. I've found the family from Leta to the present time. I've not yet found Vernon in anything except the 1900 census and I can't find anything else about Rev. John or Marion. Janice
Any info appreciated about this couple who came from Wales to Middle Granville where Thomas (29) worked in the slate quarries. (They did have at least one child, a son.) Because Ann was very homesick, they returned to Wales a few years after arrival. A Rachael (Rachel) Griffiths, age 59, may have been with them on their travels from New York City to Middle Granville, but she did not return with them to Wales. Anyone knowing of this family, please be in touch. Thanks. Janice
