Sharon: I have a friend in California that is from a Root family during this time frame but further south in Columbia County. In my case of Crippen family members, they were also from further south but came to Washington county for the land that had been taken from the Loyalists during the war. Additionally Granville became a hot spot in the slate mining industry. I will give him a shout and ask if he has any Root ideas. Dear Sharon, I have Israel and Lydia in the 1850 and 1860 census of Elbridge, Onondaga County New york. Israel's father is the only one interned in the Fort Ann Cemetery on route 149 according to cemetery records. Asahel ROOT's full rev war pension file is online at footnote.com. You will need a subscription to access it. Chances are as a Rev War pensioner, someone up there knows where he lived and is buried. Try the Washington Co. historian and the archivist. The American Legion also usually keeps track of these guys for decorating graves and such. He is listed in the DAR Patriot Index so at least one woman has joined the DAR under him, maybe more. Google him in quotes with some other keywords and there is quite a bit about him online and in old books that are online at Google books and archive.org. I checked Landholders of North Eastern NY which covers some of the early deed indexes but do not see him listed. Some of the land, actually quite a lot of lands in Washington county were under leasehold and there will be no deeds. One thing that I have done to put people in communities, or at least have a general idea, is to look at all of the various census available for him and then copy 10 names each side of him on each census. Hi Sharon; I checked the cemetery books for Washington Co., and couldn't find any of your Roots. Being I assume it was in the 1830-1840s, I wonder if they could have been buried on a farm? Another ideal is, they are buried in Ft. Ann Cemetery but have no stones. I have relatives without stones and it's a horror. Source, Ticonderoga (N.Y.) Sentinel-- Thur. Oct. 10, 1907. MURDERER AND SUICIDE AT 86. The body of Mrs. Silas Baldwin of Hampshire, ILL., reached Granville last week and was buried in Trinity churchyard beside the grave of he first husband, James Norton, and their child. Mrs. Baldwin was eighty-two years of age. Her husband, who was eighty-six years old, struck her on the head with a hammer inflicting injuries which caused her death. The hammer, covered with blood, being found in the house, suspicion pointed to the old man. When he found that he was known as the murderer he took poison, which ended his life. He was thought to be somewhat demented. Mrs. Baldwin was a former resident of Granville and Poultney. Her first husband was a brother of the late Alonso H. Norton of Granville. She lost control of her horse and the animal bolted up the road. After going a mile or more Mrs. Fowler either tried to throw herself from the horse of fainted and fell, the horse's hoof striking her just back of the ear and crashing her skull. To prevent sites from sending emails to your entire address book, create a bogus email address and add it to your contact list. Use AAA@gmail.com or some such fictitious address. Starting the address with an "A" will put it at the top of your contact list, then when spam attacks your address book it gets to the first address and is stopped right there.
