Regarding my Elizabeth Dunbar nee MUIR. Is anyone familiar with this Muir family probably from the Argle area as she d. there and was buried at the Albany Rural Cem. Elizabeth Dunbar died May 27, 1846 in her (8)(7)4th year"(badly worn) (her age 72 per Death Notices from Wash. Co. NY by Jackson/Heritage Books Inc.); an old family note says Elizabeth d. Argle, NY (Wash. Co). Thanks, Robert W. Trimmer (formerly of Albany/Schenectady area now in Granger, IN
Mike, I'm pretty certain it's the same church. I researched the cemetery book for Argyle and the South Argyle Church Cemetery is located "in back of the South Argyle Presbyterian Church at the intersection of County Rt. 338 and Lohret Rd." Looking at a map, I can see Lohret intersects with Rt. 49. And since Argyle is such a small community, I'm sure it's the only Presbyterian Church in town. Anne
More on the South Argyle Presbyterian Church. There is a good photo of that former church at the following Washington County website (scroll down): http://www.washingtoncounty.org/argyle/town.htm <http://www.washingtoncounty.org/argyle/town.htm> You can also get there through the Town of Argyle website: http://www.argyleny.com/ <http://www.argyleny.com/>
Anne - You're right, but there are/were two other Presbyterian Churches in Argyle: The church in the village of Argyle (which was at several locations before the current one on Rte. 40 on the south side of the village; see the photo in the upper left at this site for the Town of Argyle: http://www.argyleny.com/), and the North Argyle Presbyterian Church (now an office, but retaining it's structure) on Rte. 40 just south of the hamlet of North Argyle (a photo of that church is the last photo at this site; scroll down with "arrow" or "page down" keys. (http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywashin/ArgylePhotos.htm; you can't use your mouse pointer on this site for unknown reasons). - Mike Huggins, Irvine, CA -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, December 09, 2004 8:40 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [NYWASHIN] Re: FW: Presbyterian Church of South Argyle Mike, I'm pretty certain it's the same church. Michael - The link didn't work for me (page wouldn't display), but even so if it says "South Argyle" and "Presbyterian" it is almost certainly the same church at Lohret Rd. and Rt 49. FYI, I posted some of my south Argyle relatives' photos on Michele McKenzie's website, along with apparently other South Argyle Church members (there are even some photos of Rev. Andrew as well). http://www.familyfindings.com/photos/albums.htm (See Tinkey Photograph Album) I would be interested in what church records are available from the LDS site. I do have a list (courtesy of Historical Data Services) of all the burials in the Church cemetery. - Mike Huggins, Irvine, CA (former Argylian) -----Original Message----- From: Michael McAlonie [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, December 09, 2004 2:18 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [NYWASHIN] Fw: Presbyterian Church South Argyle http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?dis play=titledetails&titleno=144538&disp=Records+of+the+United+Presbyterian+Chu rc<http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp? display=titledetails&titleno=144538&disp=Records+of+the+United+Presbyterian+ Churc> I searched the LDS film index for south argyle washington county ny and saw this church's records. I was on ebay and searched Argyle NY and saw a few items that looked like original 1870-1880 books that should be in a museum- one a 1880 history of Argyle presbytery, one an 1878 History of Wash County. FYI MIke

Would you have a list of the men of Easton, Washington Co NY that fought in the War of 1812....Sandra
Hi, I have gotten the War of 1812 service records from the National Archives for eight Searles men who all served in Pliny Adams' Regiment of the New York Militia. I am trying to see how these men are related. I don't know where the men were mustered in, but I know where some of these men lived when they were mustered in. This may help you. All the Searles men were enlisted in Pliny Adams' Regiment from Sept. 11-Sept 23, 1814. They were all discharged on Sept. 18, 1814 in Burlington, VT. ( " distance from place of residence 75 miles"). When they enlisted Elijah Searles lived in Hampton and William Searles lived in Granville and they served in Capt. Thaddeus Sheldon's Company of Pliny Adam's Regiment.Thaddeus Sheldon apparently was of Hampton NY in 1810 where he appears on the census that year. 3 2 0 1--/ 2 0 0 1. Jeriah Searles, Jacob Searles, Abramham Searles, Isaac Searles, and Samuel Searles lived in Whitehall and they all served in Capt. Jacob Foster's Company of Pliny Adam's Regiment.Jacob Foster apparently was of Whitehall NY in 1810 where he appears on the census that year. 1 0 0 1--/ 1 2 1 0 0 1 He also appears on the census in Whitehall in 1820. John Searles may have lived in Salem ( unfortunately, I believe that he is my ancestor and I am having the hardest time finding information about him) John Searles served in Capt. Jeriel Dayton's Company of Pliny Adam's Regiment.Jehiel Dayton apparently was of Fort Ann in 1810, as he appears in the census there that year. 2 1 0 1 0 / 1 0 0 1 0 3 In 1830 he was of Granville NY (1 0 0 1 3 0 1/0 0 1 0 1 0 1) In 1812 he appears on an 1812 equipment claim in Granville NY. Also, there is an Elisha Webster in Granville on the 1810 census. Is he yours?? Hi, Seeking to prove William Powers born 28 March 1760 in MA was the son of Andrew POWERS, and William moved from Hartford, Windsor Co., VT, to Whitehall, Washington Co., NY. Children may have been: Andrew, William Jr., Anna, James, Benjamin, Jonathan [my ancestor], Simon, Theda, Almena, and/orHannah. In the 1790 census in Whitehall, Washington Co., New York on the Vermont state line near where the Joseph BERRY family formerly of Guildhall, VT, were supposed to have been living at the time there is a William POWERS with a household enumeration that was close to being correct (one son missing). This may have been my William as the one identified in Hartford, Windsor Co., VT in the same census had too many people in his household enumeration. Thanks to Jim and Lester for this data. Many THANKS :-) in advance, Jan Jordan in VT
I have transcribed Item 5, the alien declarations of intention for the Irish born from the court of Common Pleas, Rensselaer County for LDS film #1304663. They cover the years 1875 to 1880 and number almost 300 records. The aliens who filed the papers not only lived in Rensselaer county but in surrounding counties. Probably about half or more of the records give the county in Ireland of birth and about half of them also give the townland. This film is a huge film and dates 1855-1884. I still have two more items to transcribe. You can find the records on the Troy section of my website (URL below my name). I will also be adding a link to the Rensselaer website, Naturalizations section at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrenss2/ -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton AV2005

In the 1860 census for White Creek, there is listed a Slocum B. NORTON, aged 24, with wife Louisa, aged 23. In addition to other family members, there is a man named Michael HARDY, aged 75, b. abt. 1794 in VT. Does anyone know who this Michael HARDY is, and what is relationship, if any, is to the NORTONs? There was a Dutch Reformed Church, (aka: Presbyterian) about six miles south of there in the hamlet of Battenville immediately across the river in the town of Jackson. The church is long gone but you can see the outline of the area where it was in the cemetery that adjoined it. I tried several years ago to locate any church records for it but had no luck. I would love to find them also if anyone has any ideas. This cemetery has ancestors of Susan B. ANTHONY and some of my HOWARD ancestors. It is not much further into the village of Greenwich where several churches existed. I think some of the Baptist church records from there are available. Source,Rutland, Vt.Daily Herald--Mon.Oct.12, 1964. POULTNEY, Vt. POULTNEY PARENTS OF 15 HAVE 51st WEDDING DATE. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Jones of South Poultney (Vt.), who once received a message of appreciation from President Eisenhower for their contribution toward the nation's war effort, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary here Saturday. They once had 10 sons in the armed services at the same time. The couple was feted in a open house at the Valley Club at a party arranged by their 15 sons and daughters, all of whom were present except Donald Jones of Bennington (Vt) who with his sister, Mrs. Dorothy Gerstenmaier of Darien, Conn., represent one of the two sets of twins born to the Joneses. The other twins are Paul and Pauline Jones of Poultney. In addition to the two sets of twins, Mr. and Mrs. Jones are also parents of triplets, who were also at the party. They are Clifford Jones of Poultney, Clayton Jones of South Glens Falls, N.Y., and Mrs. Catherine Smith of Glens Falls, N. Y. Grandchildren , more than can be counted on the fingers of two hands, and great- grandchildren also, were much in evidence at the celebration. President Eisenhower sent a special message of appreciation to the Joneses during the time the couple had 10 sons in military service at the same time. Saturday's party was a postponement for the 50th anniversary scheduled for last year, Jones's sudden illness caused cancellation of that one. Mr. and Mrs. Jones were married in Utica, N.Y., and soon moved to Poultney, which became their permanent residence. Jones is a retired slate worker. The Jones couple's other sons and daughters are Thomas Jones Jr., Stamford, Conn.; Mrs. Florence Constantine, Granville, N.Y. ; Mrs. Blodwen Boule, Tinmouth, Vt. ; and Kenneth , Robert, Gordon and Hayden Jones and Mrs. Ruth Dente,of Poultney. Hayden the youngest, recently was discharged from the Air Force. One son, Howell Jones, died some years ago.
