    3. Among the many fringe benefits of this message board are the bits of history one learns along the way. As is said; "History repeats itself - if we are fool enough to let it." You would think that even then the government would know enough not to destroy documents as important as the census. I remember looking at the battleship "Eisenhower" and a tour guide saying "The paperwork generated by the government to build this ship - if put on her deck - would sink her." That visualization was unimaginable. To think that requests for bids, invoices, bills of lading and the like are sitting around somewhere yet the census isn't. Thanks for this post. It is a good reminder to all of us to not only back up but preserve any of the genealogy, paper and digital, which we have accumulated. - I've been negligent in this area, even knowing how important it is. 3. In the 1930 census in Aurora, Erie Co., NY there's a Harry W. Adams (age 30) with wife Sarah D. (age 31) - married 9 years - with children Carl D. and Billy. From the ages et al, I suspect this is the Harry Adams and Sarah Dennison you're researching? If so... In a WWI draft registration card filed in Morrisville, Madison Co., NY on Sept. 12, 1918, a Harry Warner Adams, b. Oct. 13, 1899, indicates his closest relative is Amey Warner Adams of East Aurora, Erie Co., NY. In 1910 in Aurora, NY there is a Harry Adams, age 9, listed as a nephew in the household of Eugene & Mary Spaulding. In the 1900 census for Aurora, NY, there is William Adams (b. June 1869), wife Sarah B. (b. Aug 1871), daughter Amy (b. Feb. 1893), son Harry W. (b. Oct. 1898) - all born in NY, and widowed mother Mary? M. (b. June 1845 in Germany). 3. Just replied to your first request. The question here is - do you know for certain that she was a teacher, or was that information the result of a search for her name on the 1920 census? I don't know if you are just getting started here, or if you have been at it a while. The transcriptions for the 1920 census only included heads of household, but her name resulted because she was a boarder. The census states which school it is, but I can't read it. it might be "District School" Carol Glen Allen, VA Scanned with Symantec Anti-Virus -----Original Message----- From: Tee [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 1:58 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NYWASHIN] Sarah Dennison Adams 1920's School teacher Can someone help me find out what school Sarah Dennison Adams Taught at in 1920 Sarah was in the census listed as a district school teacher she then married in Sept 1921 to Harry Adams . 3. Do you know for certain that the Sarah Dennison shown on the 1920 census is "yours"? The reason I ask is because only heads of household were transcribed. This one appeared on a search because she was a boarder. It looks as though these two families spent most of their time in Erie County. [If these are the correct ones.] Unfortunately the census for 1910 that I subscribe to has images that are too washed out to read. Apparently the originals are also because many of the transcriptions are ????? There is a William Adams with a 10 year old son, but cannot read the name. It could be Harry. William is 40, the wife is 38, could be Sarah, daughter named Amy possibly age 7, the son possibly Harry and a brother, James age 32. William and the brother's mother born in Germany.
