    1. 1910 census occupation terminology

    3. Okay, here goes dumb question number...?...I've asked so many dumb ones that I've lost count! Here goes. On the 1910 census my great grandfather's occupation is listed as Laborer/Fireman. I can't figure out if this meant a fireman = fire fighter or fireman on a train. I've never heard stories about him being a fire fighter -- but then again, I've never heard stories about him working on trains. Well shoot!...I've never heard much about him at all. Was being a fireman on a train in those days a very skilled or largely unskilled job which might have been done temporarily by someone who 10 years later was listed as a laborer/paper mill? This was in Glens Falls. Any suggestions how I could figure this out? Thanks, Linda
