Hi, everyone - A new historical account entitled "Glens Falls and the Civil War Monument" has been added to the Warren County GenExchange page under the link entitled Historical Accounts. http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=warren It is the story of the marble monument built by the city to honor those of its sons who fought and died in various Civil War battles. While I'm not absolutely certain of this, it is most likely that the monument about which this account was written (back in the late 1800's) is still standing and is located in what is presently called Monument Square right downtown in Glens Falls. If so, then just recently there has been talk about refurbishing it and making modifications of some sort so that people can actually approach this lovely historic monument. At present its location is smack in the middle of a busy intersection on Glen Street with cars flying around it coming from four different directions. It would be at the risk of life and limb if someone were to want to get a look at this monument "up close and personal"! In this excerpt also is a list of some of the Civil War units in which Glens Falls men served. Thanks, everybody... S.L.
