Hello to all! Below is the information on the Ticonderoga Historical Society Summer 2002 Genealogy Series for anyone who might be interested. The historical society is located at the Hancock House Museum in Ticonderoga, Essex Co., NY. SUMMER 2002 GENEALOGY SERIES Wednesday evenings at the Hancock House Museum GENEALOGY BASICS Wednesday May 8th "Where do I start?" This class will teach the basics to help you get started on the search for your ancestors. It will cover family group sheets, pedigree charts, and how to find information on your family. 7:00-9:00 p.m. $25 fee for the class includes start-up supplies. Class size limited to 15 people BEYOND BASICS Wednesday May 29th "Building on what you know." This class is designed to enhance search skills in the hunt for your family's history. Specially designed for people who have started their search, but need additional help in obtaining new information. The class will cover the use of vital records, census data, military records, cemetery records and immigration records. 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Cost: $20. Class size limited to 20 people. GENEALOGY ONLINE Wednesday June 12th This class will focus on using Internet resources to locate new information and resources. It will cover what you can expect from online research, genealogy software, networking through the use of mail lists and query boards, and the validity of information online. 7:00-9:00 p.m. Cost: $20. Class size limited to 20 people. RESEARCHING FEMALE ANCESTORS Wednesday July 10th This class will emphasize methods aimed at enhancing your search for the "hidden half" of the family. Ordinary, everyday women - our ancestors - led fascinating lives. Learn how they became the women they were, and how they shaped your life in the process. 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Cost: $15. Class size limited to 20 people. GENEALOGY and SOCIAL HISTORY: "A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN" Wednesday July 24th Bring your ancestors to life! This class focuses on techniques for finding out how your ancestors really lived; what their daily tasks were, how they earned a living, celebrated and grieved, what life was like during war times, and other experiences that affected their lives. 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Cost: $15. Class size limited to 20 people. GENEALOGY OPEN FORUM Wednesday evenings: June 5, 19, 26; July 17, 31; August 7, 14. The Ticonderoga Historical Society Research Library at the Hancock House will be open from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. for genealogical and social history research. The library has over 7,000 volumes relating to the genealogy and social history of New York and New England, an online computer for your use, the Church of the Latter Day Saints International Genealogical and Ancestral Indexes and a friendly staff!
