Listies, Does anyone have any further info about this Colonel MUNSEL who was granted thousands of acres of land in western VT, eastern NY, and, evidently, OH? A full name perhaps? Any info will be most appreciated. I have two references as shown below: Ref 1. From: Debbie Whitman, State Contact - debbiew@sover.net VTGenExchange http://www.genexchange.org/state.cfm?state=vt The only MUNSELL mentioned in the Wells book is a Col. Munsell on p. viii in the history of Wells. He is mentioned on a 1767 survey map registered in Albany, NY which shows a grant of 5,000 acres in the county of Albany on the west side of a lake called St. Catherine's to a Col. Munsell. The 5,000 acres included most of the present Wells, west of the lake; parts of Poultney, VT and Granville, NY. The claim was invalidated through the efforts of the Green Mountain Boys. ****************************************************** Ref 2. Miami Co OH A part of Mr. Duer's farm possesses great historic interest. It was formerly owned by Colonel Munsel and county annals tell of the notable gathering of men, around the old spring, on this farm, to discuss the acquisition of the Northwest Territory, the final decision of which brought about such momentous results. The old spring still bubbles up its clear, sweet, cold water, never, in all these years, having failed.
