    3. Hi, I don't know much about Glassbrook family, except there was a Judge Glassbrook in Warren Co., about 1950-1960s. They were a prominent family in Glens Falls, but none in this area now, that I know of. Never heard of any Florican! Try the Glens Falls City Clerk, City Hall, 4 Ridge St., Glens Falls, NY 12801. They should have birth, marriage, death certs. for Glassbrooks. 2. Hi Todd, as you are aware, Bolton will be celebrating its bicentennial???? this coming summer. I have been trying to link up the Rev vets descendents with their ancestors buried in a couple of the local cemetaries. you might want to do some listings on that era also My interest is in the colonial French & Indian War era, especially battles of Crown Point, First Battle of Lake George (followed by the construction of Ft Wm Henry), first and second Battles of Ft Carillion (Later named Ticonderoga) Brit. Commanders Sir Wm Johnson, Abercrombie, Amhurst Colonial commander Brig Gen Timothy RUGGLES, highest ranking American born Colonial officer Bill Perkins

    1. New Addtions for the Holidays!
    2. Hi Everyone: I just wanted to take the time to let everyone know of some new additions that will be coming up online on the Warren Co. USGenWeb site, and to wish everyone seasons greetings. First off. let me wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the great north! We will be having a white Christmas for sure (of course I can't imagine it different here in Alaska). The last 4 months have been great since I was fortunate to inherit the site from Robert Clayton (thanks Robert!). The feedback has been great and everyone seems to be happy with the direction we've been heading. I will be adding plenty more in the coming New Year with lots of help from other researchers. We now have over 100 subscribers to this list, so there is plenty of opportunity for all of us to share and help one another. I personally have had much success with my line thanks to many others. Over the holidays I'll be adding the following to the site so watch for these changes: 1) I'll be posting those historical letters that we all enjoyed here a few weeks ago. 2) I'll be posting the first section of the new Military category. The Civil War will be first. It will include some enlistment rolls for Warren County towns (thanks to Tom Dunne who has been extracting them for quite some time now). I'll also be including links and information on the regiment. 3) I have some new cemetery transcriptions I'll be posting in the Horicon area. 4) Time permitting I hope to "finish up" the Warrensburg 1850 census at get it posted next. As we go into 1999, I'll be adding a new volunteer section, where, if you have any databases you'd like to share, we can get them posted. Or maybe you might like to do lookups or footwork for others if you live in the area. So watch for that. I also hope to include some Revolutionary War information for the area (although Warren Co. wasn't formed until after the rebellion). I also have some more letters (thanks to Tom again) that I hope to transcribe and post here. They tell of life in the Civil War between to brothers. Also, I'll be spending a week in March in the area and I hope to find other items we can include here. As always if you have any ideas of suggestions please let me know, and we can make this the best of the USGenWeb sites (although I biased I think its right up there already). So again; MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all wherever you are. I know we are spread out across the country and the world. Todd Easton USGenWeb Warren Co, NY CC NYWARREN-L host

    3. Thanks to everyone, Cleared up the Florian mistake for me. The burial records of the Sexton in Niagara, must have been transcribed wrong, and the bible I have had it Horican, but the H looked like a Fl. So ya'll got me on the right track. Also my mistake he died May 11 1898. and a permit was given at Pottersville, by Chas H. Hicks town clerk. His son Frank went and got him in Nov. and took him back to Niagara for burial.I assume the permit was for transport. Does anyone have the Horicon clerk's address to order a death certificate? Jean thanks, I am sure there is a connection there. Thanks again, Sharry of Fl

Colburn 31 Aug 1890. · The Herricks Henry Herrick (I), the Immigrant, was reportedly born in 1604, in the County of Leicester, England. A Puritan, he arrived in Salem, Massachusetts, by at least 1629, when he and wife Editha helped found the first church. Editha was the daughter of Hugh Laskin of Salem. "Henry of Salem’s" will, dated 24 November 1670, when Henry (I) was a resident of Beverly, Massachusetts, divides up his property between a number of sons and daughters, after making ample arrangements for Editha. Henry (I) and Editha had a number of children, to include: --Thomas --Zacharie, bap. 25 Dec 1636, d. 18 August 1710, played role in Salem Witchcraft trials. --Ephraim (II), bap. 11 Feb 1638 --Henry, bap. 16 Jan 1640, d. 1702, inherited his father’s farm, served as juror during witchcraft trials in 1692. --Joseph, bap. 6 Aug 1645, d. 4 February 1717-18, involved in withcraft proceedings (first as the acting constable, then, turning against the delusion, petitioned on behalf of the accused), served in militia as a corporal, engaged in international trade, married three times. --Elizabeth, bap. 4 Jul 1647, m. Philip Fowler, d. 6 May 1727 --John, bap. 25 May 1650, m. Mary Redington, d. 1680 --Benjamin Ephraim (II), married Mary Cross of Salem on 3 July 1661. After settling on a farm at Birch Plain given him by his father, they had eight children : --John (III), b. 31 May 1662 --Ephraim, b. 13 August 1664, moved to Preston, Connecticut --Mary, b. 14 June 1667 --Stephen, b. 15 March 1670, Lieutenant of the Second Company or trainband of the Town of Preston, m. Elizabeth Trask --Sarah --Samuel, b. 4 June 1675, m. Mehetabel Woodward 1698, settled in Preston --Timothy, b. 4 January 1681, settled in Preston --Anna, b. 20 November 1683 Ephraim (II) died 18 September 1693 in Beverly. Many of the Herricks in these generations of Herricks had significant involvement in the Salem withcraft trials and executions. None were victims, and Joseph, son of Henry (I), had the distinction, apparently in his capacity as constable, of bringing some of the condemned to their place of public hanging. Later, upon reflection he denounced the killing, albeit somewhat too late for those whose sentence had been carried out. John (III) married Bethia Salart 21 April 1684, They lived in Beverly and Wenham, having two children John (IV), and Hilkiah (b. 29 April 1699). John (IV) lived in Preston, Connecticut, where he married Susanna (Last Name Unknown) and had two sons, John (b. 1732) and Eleazer (V). John (IV) moved to Woodbury, Connecticut, where he was killed by Indians in the war of 1745. Eleazer (V), born after 1732, married Mary Rea on 11 April 1759, and had seven children: --Sarah, b. 5 April 1761 --John, b. 27 July 1763 --Rufus, b. 25 August 1765 --Stephen (VI), b. 5 May 1767 --Hiram, b. 15 May 1769 --Eleazer, b. 10 June 1776 --Mary, b. 5 September 1778 Stephen Herrick (VI) (DPOB May 1767, Hartford, Connecticut) married Abigail Geer 25 December 1788; they had 12 children. Abigail died in Warrensburg 6 Feb 1809 at the age of 41. After his mother’s death, James Herrick (VII) (born 21 November 1799), seventh child of Stephen and Abigail, went to live with his Uncle, Robert Geer , who had been a soldier in the Revolution. Stephen (VI) remarried after Abigail’s death, and took most of the family west. James (VII) married Mary Bennett (DOB 3 June 1797), the daughter of James Bennett and Sallie Langworthy (one of the great grand-children of this couple was American Hero Floyd Bennett, of aviation fame). James and Mary had nine children, the second of whom was Robert Geer Herrick (VIII), born 27 July 1822 (grandfather of Grace). --Robert Geer (VIII) married Hannah Potter White 19 June 1847. Robert Geer and Hannah were the parents of seven children: Frederick W. (b. 1848), Andrus (b. 1850), Mary S. (b. 1853), W. Lila (b. 1857), Simeon Crandell (IX) (b. 3 August 1859), Joel W. (b. 1863), and James Geer (b. 1865). --Simeon Crandell Herrick (IX) married Jennie M. Prouty of Chestertown 10 August 1886. Simeon C. died 28 May 1934 and Jennie 16 January 1896 (from measles). They had one child, Grace M. Herrick , born 28 June 1887. Grace Herrick married Orange Underwood. Bob Underwood

    3. Happy Holidays Warren County List members! We wish we were in the North Country! A special thanks to Todd for all his great work that those of us interested in Warren County history and genealogy benefit from. This message contains two parts: 1) A query about Elmyra Norton (abt 1824 - abt 1875) wife of John Underwood (see chart below). In census reports I have seen her name spelled Almira, Elmira and other variants. There were certainly other Nortons in the area of Brant Lake at this time; I just don't who they were, i.e., who her parents were. 2) A chart on the descendants of Oliver Underwood and Maria (sometimes spelled Mariah) Nichols, Oliver was born and raised in Marlboro, VT, Maria(h) in Halifax, VT, but came to Horicon and had their family. Oliver and Maria are buried in Chestertown. Please note the Elmyra Norton of the query above is married to Oliver and Maria's son John. I hope to "categorize" more information and make it more user friendly (ie making the links easier to get too). I'll be adding some more information over the next few weeks also. Todd Easton

My interest is in the Colonial Wars in which Carillion was successfully defended by Montcalm when attacked by Abercrombie. Amhurst then attacked at a later date and captured the Fort and renamed it Ticonderoga. Brig Gen Timothy RUGGLES was involved in the Colonial Wars (French and Indian War) and fought under Sir Wm Johnson, Abercrombie and finally Amhurst. I do not have the literature to help you for the period that you are seeking (Rev War). You do know about the cannon being taken from the Fort to Boston on sledges in the winter?? by the Continentals There is a Ft Ticonderoga Hist Society and they have a brief site linked to NY , I forget the link but try surfing around a bit. I think I remember it as listing the address for the Ft Ti Hist Soc. I will post this response to the MAME, NY-MILITARY, NY-WARREN lists to see if anyone responds for you. 1. 1910 census occupation terminology
    2. Linda Crannell
    3. Okay, here goes dumb question number...?...I've asked so many dumb ones that I've lost count! Here goes. On the 1910 census my great grandfather's occupation is listed as Laborer/Fireman. I can't figure out if this meant a fireman = fire fighter or fireman on a train. I've never heard stories about him being a fire fighter -- but then again, I've never heard stories about him working on trains. Well shoot!...I've never heard much about him at all. Was being a fireman on a train in those days a very skilled or largely unskilled job which might have been done temporarily by someone who 10 years later was listed as a laborer/paper mill? This was in Glens Falls. Any suggestions how I could figure this out? Thanks, Linda

    1. Thanksgiving, reflecting on family and friends
    2. Hi all, Just thought it was appropriate to post this. I would like to give thanks for the health of my family, the good fortunes we have enjoyed, and the good times we have shared. I would also like to include a thanks to all of those of you who have shown me a bit more about my past, who have taken the personal time and expense to do so and asked nothing in return. Thanksgiving has always been, for me, a time to reflect on our fortunes and let those who touched us in a good way know that we do very much appreciate their efforts. Thank you, all of you, very much. Bill

    1. Historic Turkey Recipe!
    2. Linda Crannell
    3. 1890: The turkey should be cooped up and fed some time before Christmas. Three days before it is slaughtered, it should have an English walnut forced down its throat three times a day, and a glass of sherry once a day. The meat will be deliciously tender, and have a fine nutty flavor. Mrs. Stephen J.
