    1. BENNETTS in Warren County
    2. Charlotte Brennan
    3. In sorting through the many Bennetts of Warren Co., NY I am stumped on this one. Nathan BENNETT appeared on the tax roles of Warrensburg in 1814 and 1816 (NEHGR 73:103). Who is he? Other Bennetts on the same tax roles were probably the sons of Abel and Nancy (STRANAHAN) BENNETT. They were: Abel, probably Abel, Jr., b. abt 1776 in Coventry, Kent, RI, who m. Jemima HARRINGTON, dau of ?. Caleb, b. abt 1765 in RI. He m. Sarah HARRINGTON, dau. of ? James, b. 22 Apr 1771in Coventry, RI; m. abt 1795 Sally LANGWORTHY Samuel, b. abt 1785 in RI; m. ? I have a Nathan, b. 1781 in East Greenwich (possibly), RI who m. Huldah NICHOLS, b. 12 Jun 1791, Kingsbury, Washington Co., NY. She was the dau. of Silas NICHOLS and Ruth UNDERWOOD (probably) of RI. I would like to prove that he is or is not a son of Abel and Nancy. I would welcome information on any of these people. 2. John Austin
    3. The Queensbury quintuplets must have lived near the present-day Fort Ann line, for here is what we find in The Washington Post newspaper of Salem, Washington County, for 10 March 1808: "The wife of David Irish of Westfield was delivered of five children, two sons and three daughters. They were alive when born, but died in a few hours. They altogether weighed seven pounds and five ounces." The mother was Sally (Phelps) Irish, b. CT c. 1786, dau. of Norman and Sarah (Cole) Phelps. Sally and her husband David Irish settled at Groveland MI in 1837. Their other children were Norman, Liberty B., Julius, Susan B. and Manly Irish.

    1. Glens Falls
    2. Greetings! I am trying to locate information on my gggg grandfather, Job PRINCE. He purchased a farm near Glens Falls, NY in 1819. He died in 1828 and is buried in Reynolds Corners cemetery His wife, Rhoda KIBBE PRINCE, died in 1831. My questions are: 1. What happened to the farm? Shouldn't there be some form of will or probate? Would I look in 1827 or 1831 when his wife died? Where would I look? 2. Who would have records on Reynolds Corners cemetery? There is a marker there for Job, but not Rhoda. Is it possible she is buried there in an unmarked grave? 3. Were there local papers that would have had obituary information in them at that time? 4. Anybody else researching the PRINCE line? 5. I can't find a marriage record for them either. Rhoda's family is well documented. They even have her listed in several editions with the right birth and death dates, but no record of the marriage or children. (There were ten of them) In fact, they don't list her as being married. How would researchers 100 years ago have handled it if indeed there wasn't a marriage, they were just living together and she just assumed his name? There was an 18 year age difference between them. My apologies for this being so long. Thank you for all your help. Regards, Annette Blanchard

    1. CLINE/HOWSON (HOVSON/HOFFMAN)
    2. Beth Rutherford
    3. Hi, all, new subscriber with a too-common name to search. However, I'll not give up. Am searching for a link to my gggrandfather, Charles CLINE. According to census info I have compiled, Charles was born in 1855 in NY, married to a Sarah (believe her maiden name was HOWSON (perhaps HOVSON or HOFFMAN). Charles indicated his father was born in NY as well (except for one census entry that states PA). This is the only info I have as to where the Clines may have been. A marriage entry which I believe may be my Clines, from St. Johns Dutch Reformed Church in St. Johnsville, Montgomery County, NY, indicates a Charles Cline & Sarah Hoffman were married in February, 1878. Am in the process of requesting that info to see if any light can be shed as to whether this may be my gggrandparents. The next information I have is an 1880 census entry for Charles CLINE & Sarah, with daughter Lillie (2), in Sac County, Iowa. Next I find them in the 1885 census for Knox County, Nebraska, with two more daughters, Mary & Viola (which is my g-aunt's name) & a son Frederick (my g-uncle's name). My grandfather was born in Knox County in 1886. After that, I have lost them. So, my request to you all is if anyone on this list knows if any CLINES/HOVSON, etc. were in this county. Am assuming that the Clines were of German ancestry. According to census entries, as well as a family story (tongue-in-cheek), Sarah was born in England in 1855. Would appreciate any help you can lend. Thanks in advance. Beth Rutherford Turner, OR

    3. I found these paragraphs on the Homework Central e-mail. It might help those in NYS research. NY Historical Maps http://www.homeworkcentral.com/Top8/files.htp?fileid=86462&use=hc Virtually explore the environs of Old New York. Twenty New York historical maps, listed in chronological order from 1556 to 1895, illustrate yesteryear's New York. When these maps were drawn in ink and printed on paper, their circulation was limited. Over time their value has increased and their accessibility decreased, as they have become more scarce. But things have changed. The Internet is now reaching into protective archives to reverse the scarcity trend and make old maps available to scholars everywhere in digital collections like this one from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. The cartographers who created these old maps were at the cutting edge of the technology of their day, making geographical images without modern measuring means and satellite images. Looking at their maps lets us see profound changes that have occurred over time. 3. Does anyone remember Minnie Martin, who lived on Harlem St., Glens Falls, until the 1950s, when she died? She moved to Glens Falls with her eight children (Sylvia (Ives), bn abt 1900, is the one I'm interested in) after her husband Charles died of whooping cough. They were living in Hartford, Washington Co., N.Y., until Charles died between 1910 and 1915. The children's names also include Albert, Herbert, Minor, Fred and Frank, the youngest, born about 1910. Unfortunately, Minnie's death was too recent to be open in the NYS Health Dept indexes, or I'd look it up there. Her granddaughter Dorothy does not know her grandmother's maiden name. That is the first thing we're trying to establish. In which cemetery in Glens FalIs is Minnie Martin buried? Will that lead us to more information? Thanks for any help to my cousin Dorothy and me. Nancy in Schenectady
