    2. I just got some more information on the WOOD family. Ernest WOOD was the son of Amos WOOD and Cordelia PALMER. Cordelia was first married to a John R Wood, and had children, one named John. I dont know if John R and Amos WOOD were brothers or maybe cousins. I would love to hear from anyone else who is researching the WOOD or PALMER family! Thanks! Heather

    1. WOOD
    2. I am researching the name WOOD from Warren Co. and Washington Co NY. My g-Grandfather was Ernest Sylvester WOOD b: 31 July 1868 Bolton, NY (I believe they llived in Bolton Landing) He married Huldah Aura STEVES b: 23 November 1899 in Granville NY. Ernest and Huldah were married 25 June 1928 in Bolton. Ernests mother is listed as Cordelia PALMER, and I have found information on a Cordelia PALMER marrying a John R. WOOD although I dont know how accurate that is, and have nothing to prove that was Ernests parents. I was wondering if anyone has any information on the WOOD family of this area? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Heather Massachusetts

    1. Sylvenus and William Sylvenus Gifford of New York
    2. Sylvenus Gifford, son of the Rev. War vet William Gifford is said to have fought in the War of 1812. I have not been able to find a roster of those volunteers from the New York state. Furture, Sylvenus may have been killed in the war and there may be record of such an event and perhaps a pension for his children. Any suggestions and/or help in verifying these unproved assertions would be greatly appreciated. Some also say that Sylvenus had three children, on of whom was William Sylvenus Gifford. William Sylvenus Gifford is said by some to have been born in New York state on Dec 14, 1816 and to have married Sally Cole on Sep 12, 1836. However, the War of 1812 was over in 1815 and either the birthdate is wrong, his father was not Sylvenus or Sylvenus Gifford was not killed in the War of 1812. Again, any suggestions or help in resolving these conflicts would be appreciated. 3. Hi, Listers... The Warren County Gen Exchange site is up and running. Now that it's been "adopted", it's much in need of some raw genealogical data. There are many different categories to check out, and you can submit your data for any one of these - everything from the usual birth, death, burial, and marriage records to schools, biographical sketches, wills, tax records, associations, museums, etc. We're doing our best to make such information available to everyone at no cost. It is a huge job, but one that is well worth doing. Please consider visiting the site and submitting whatever data you can so that all researchers can benefit. I'm currently working on several LDS FHL films to try to get those records online and available to all. If anyone has free time & would like to help, please drop me a line. Thanks to everyone, and Happy Holidays! Also, I am interested in finding the children that the book(s) lists for Gideon Gifford ( 28 Nov 1719 - 6 Apr 1789) and Lois Jackson( 14 Mar 1727 - ?). Does it list a William Gifford as one of their children? Best regards, David . ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. 1. RASEY / RAZEY FAMILY INFO
    2. Hi, Mom was a RASEY, so I submit the following tale. A cousin believes the monument mentioned is near Lake George. Regards, Jim Tyler Syracuse, NY jhtyler@juno.com FAMILY TRADITION STORY ABOUT FIRST RAZEY IN AMERICA as recorded by Sidney E. Rasey, Dayton, Ohio 1933 [Note: This is only Family Tradition; it has NOT been verified!!]. "According to our tradition, the progenitor of the Rasey family in America was Baron McLeod, who owned the Island of Raasay on the west coast of Scotland. When England annexed Scotland, Baron McLeod got in bad with the British government, and, to save himself, emigrated to America. He had a number of sons. Still being afraid of the British Government, he sent his sons out to different parts of the country, some of them under the name of McLeod, and some of them under the name of Rasey. ... Two or three years ago, a second cousin of mine, Wilbur Rasey of Willoughby, Ohio (near Cleveland) run onto a traveling man by the name of McLeod, who traced his ancestory back to the Baron McLeod, who emigrated from the Island of Raasay to America. Baron McLeod is buried in eastern New York near Lake Champlaign. There is a monument at his grave on which are carved his name and his Coat of Arms." The farthest back we can trace our Razey/Rasey family is to JOSEPH RAZEY, born about 1732; married Mary Hollen 06 May 1757 at Mendon, Mass; died prior to 1810 (death date for his wife). ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. 1. LookUp Offer
    2. I have just come across the book Their Own Voices "Oral Accounts of Early Settlers In Washington County, New York". This book is a collection of interviews done by Dr. Asa Fitch (1809-1879) of Salem, NY. Most of the included interviews were done in 1847 and 1848. The book is a subset of the interviews, the originals of which are in the collection of the NY Genealogical and Biographical Society in New York City. The original is over 1800 pages, this book contains only about 150 pages. This subset book was published in 1983. Anyone who would like a lookup should send me as much information as they have available. (Please don't ask for everything on a given surname.) And please send the request privately rather than clogging up the mailing list. Interestingly, more of my Warren County ancestors show up than my Washington County ancestors.
