    1. Lake Luzerne-WATERHOUSE
    2. Bill Waterhouse
    3. Hi Listers: I wonder if anyone in Warren Co. & thereabouts remembers & might have any info. on the Waterhouse Restaurant in Lake Luzerne, & it's owner, a William WATERHOUSE. To go back in time; My late wife & I spent our honeymoon at Lake Geo- rge in 1956, & while there went to this restaurant where we had an excellent meal, & had a interesting conversation with the owner, Mr. Waterhouse, in which we exchanged some family information, & we both felt there were similarities in our ancestry which might indicate we were descended from the same line. We never returned there, & through all the years that have passed, had no further contact, & the meeting was forgotten. In the past cou- ple of years I have been researching my Waterhouse ancestry, & when recently going through some old family memorabilia, I came across a book of matches from the Waterhouse Restaurant in Lake Luzerne,NY which were picked up during our 1956 visit. This opened up many mem- ories from the past, & got me wondering if Mr. Waterhouse or any of his family or relatives were still in the area who I could be put in con- tact with, & could pursue a possible connection between our ancestry- [After all these years]. If there is anyone out there who can help me with any info., it will be sincerely appreciated. Best Regards, WILLIAM R.-[BILL]-WATERHOUSE MYSTIC, CT wm.r.waterhouse@mymailstation.com ***GOD BLESS AMERICA***

    1. POORHOUSE Information
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. Hi, folks! We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com (We felt that even folks researching counties adjacent to Washington County NY might benefit from having the resource described below. So please forgive the cross postings.) In my book, Portraits of Poverty, I abstracted over 1600 Inmate Registration Certificates (from 1875 through 1900) from the WASHINGTON County Poorhouse We just posted the complete NAME INDEX. You can find the index and lots of information about the certificates and the book on the WASHINGTON County page. If you would like more poorhouse information, I will be doing presentations about poorhouse history and records (see http://www.poorhousestory.com/PRESENTATIONforNov2001.htm ) on November 10th in Orange County and on November 17th in Saratoga for Heritage Hunters. I would really like to meet some of you folks there! (We've gotta stop meeting just like this ... only by e-mail. <grin>) DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on NEW YORK on the table of states, then on WASHINGTON on the table of counties. If you will scroll down to the section on Records, you will see the entry (with a yellow NEW arrow). (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady) BestWishes, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

    2. Marion Markham
    3. In the roster list at the end of THE ADIRONDACK REGIMENT, I found a George H. Wing who enlisted at Queensbury the day before Edgar M. Wing enrolled. I am assuming that they were brothers and would be interested in information on either of them. Does anyone know the difference between enlisting and enrolling? Marion Markham

    1. Three Years with the Adirondack Regiment
    2. Marion Markham
    3. When I asked for help in researching Edgar Wing, several people mentioned an out-of-print book -- Three Years With the Adirondack Regiment from the diaries of John Cunningham. I thought that some of you might be interested in knowing that the book was reprinted this year by Chuck Nettleship. His address is: Nettleship Resources, Inc., 4 Wolfe Lane, Bedford, NH 03110. The cost is $77.00. My copy arrived today and I was excited to find a line drawing of Lt. Edgar Wing as well as a listing in the back that makes me believe he had a brother in the same company. Since so many had so much different information, I am still interested in anything else that might be lurking in your files. Thanks to all. Marion

    1. Kinghts Templar - Masonic Order
    2. Marion Markham
    3. I have an emblem that I believe came from my mother-in-law's Wing ancestors. It is a Maltese cross with a circle in the center. The circle has a crown with a red cross behind it. At the top of the cross is a small bust of a knight in armour. My research leads me to believe that it belonged to someone who reached the first level of the Masonic Order of the Knights Templar. On the back side, a white circle contains the letters K.S.H.T.W.S.S.T. (Since they are in a circle, I can only guess that the K is the first letter.) Any hints about what these letters might mean? Does anyone have any information about Masonry in Warren County? Would there be any records that a non-Mason could access? Marion Markham in Illinois

    1. WALKER and REYNOLDS
    2. Aaron Hill
    3. I am researching the WALKER and REYNOLDS families of Rutland County, Vermont. Descendants moved to New York, Washington County and possibly other parts as well, then Illinois, primarily settling in Kane County, west of Chicago. Olive WALKER, born 16 Mar 1799 in Clarendon, Rutland County, Vermont, married Daniel REYNOLDS about 1820, born in 1800 in Vermont. Her parents are Benjamin WALKER and Susan GREEN. Benjamin is the son of Ichabod WALKER, veteran of the Revolution, buried in the East Clarendon Cemetery, Rutland County, Vermont. Daniel REYNOLDS and Olive WALKER had the following children: Morgan REYNOLDS, born 9 May 1824 in New York, died 25 Aug 1872 in Maxwell, Story County, Iowa. Daniel REYNOLDS Sophia REYNOLDS Harry REYNOLDS Sybil REYNOLDS Zerez REYNOLDS may be a brother to Daniel. He was born 11 Apr 1795 possibly in Granville, Washington County, New York, and married Sarah CHENEY (also spelled CHEWEY) on 24 Jul 1821 in New York. They moved to Kane County, Illinois. Amasa REYNOLDS is often mentioned as a relative on many birth records. Thank you for any information. 1. Dog Tags Found In Viet Nam
    2. Jackie Wolcott Elder
    3. I am posting this message from GenExchange Coordinators Bill Spaulding and Ann Thurber. This site may be of help to someone. Dog Tags Found In Viet Nam On a recent "Today Show" there was a story about two men who went to Hanoi on a business trip. The men encountered a guy selling old GI dog tags from US servicemen who were killed during the Viet Nam War. They were disgusted by the thought of this man profiting from the sale of these tags. Upon returning to the U.S., they decided to go back to Viet Nam and purchase ALL the dog tags. They did so, paying 19 cents per tag! They brought home several hundred tags. The plan is to return the tags to surviving family members, when they can find them. The process has already begun with one set being turned over to a grieving Mom on July 4th, (coincidentally, it was on her birthday)! These two men have set up a website, http://www.founddogtags.com" listing the names of all those whose tags they purchased. If you lost friends, family, or know of someone who lost a loved one in Viet Nam, I suggest you check out this website. If you recognize a name, there's an e-mail address to contact these two men and to help in their efforts to return the dogtag to it's rightful survivor. I'm sure a family member would be eternally grateful to have such an important item returned. Please help by checking this website. And please send the website address to everyone you know. The more people who see the lists, the greater the chance of returning ALL the tags to those who lost loved ones in Viet Nam!
