    1. Warren County Gen Site Up and running
    2. Hi all: Well I finally got all the links and images working again. MSFrontPage had done some strange things to it when I tried to "theme" the page. Luckily I had a backup. Just went back to it and made the changes mentioned yesterday. Also added a new link to Judy Lebel's Obituary Index for Glens Falls Area. ttfn Todd Easton Warren County, NY USGenWeb CC http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywarren

    1. Changes at Warren County USGenWeb site
    2. Hi Everyone: Some of you have begun to notice changes at the Warren County site at: http://rootsweb.com/~nywarren I thought I'd outline them for you here. 1) I've switched to MSFrontPage. Causing some small difficulties at first but getting hang of it. Web counters and page revision dates are not yet working though. 2) Added a new Warren County & Discussion Board. As many of you know, last year GenConnect (the system we were using) and Ancestry.com combined everything into one board. One downfall that some do not like is that they have to register, even though its free. This board will allow you to bypass that. I created it with FrontPage. Its hosted on another site though because rootsweb doesn't allow for the extensions that make it work. Try it out. 3) Added another set of historical letters. These ones are Civil War letters written by two brothers from Warren County. They were transcribed by a descendent of another brother of theirs, Tom Dunne (<A HREF="mailto:ThmsDunne9">ThmsDunne9</A>@aol.com). He also transcribed the Civil War Elistment Rolls that were added a few years ago. Great job Tom! 4) Added a few more smaller cemeteries. Middletown and some others. Would the person that sent them to me please let me know who you were again so I can give you credit. I think I know who but I need to verify. 5) Created a set of sublinks for each township. I'm going to be setting up a template for each town and then looking for volunteers to adopt each township site. If you have an interest in contributing for one of the townships then please let me know so we can get rid of the ADOPT ME and put your name down. If you have an interest let me know. You do not have to know html. I'd like to include a historical blurb about each township, cemetary listings, vitals, etc. I can convert most word processing programs to html fairly quickly with FrontPage. For now lets see if we have enough volunteers to do one township per individual. They will be assigned on a first come first served basis. 6) Fixed a few broken links. Working on some more. I've got some emails of people over the last year that asked to have information included. We'll start getting to it. Its been awhile since we had any information added but based on your comments I know there is still a lot of useful information on the site. While my last job kept me very busy I was unable to keep up with the page on a basis I'd would've liked but my current job will allow me some more "free time" again. I try to have a life outside of genealogy. I actually tried to find someone to take over for me awhile back but there were no volunteers. Watch for some new features.....these will include a volunteer lookup page so those of you willing to do lookups cna sign up then and help others.......also will be revamping the surname page into a more detailed look. Checking out some other sites to see which is best. That should do it for now. Have fun Todd Easton Warren County, NY USGenWeb CC http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywarren

    1. Minnie Bullard - Glens Falls
    2. Charles S. Latham Sr.
    3. HI Folks, I am seeking info on Minnie BULLARD (d: btw Apr-Aug 1956), wife of Jesse VANWAGNER. This couple had a son, Frank VANWAGNER. Her niece, 74, (living in Glens Falls) remembers visiting Minnie's home during her lunch periods while attending the old Glens Falls High School on Glen St. If anyone knows the election district where the old High School was located, I might find her in the census records. Minnie was known as "Aunt Minnie" by the surviving family members and they are convinced that she was the daughter of their Grandfather Truman BULLARD of Glens Falls. I have not been able to find any female offspring of Truman Bullard & Elizabeth "Libbie" CHADWICK. The only other Minnie BULLARD (1889-1935) m: Willard SMITH was the daughter of Arnold BULLARD and Julia POTTER from Luzerne, Warren Co. TYIA, Chuck Latham

    1. looking for info on Rev. Schuyler Jenkins, Glens Falls, may have died recently
    2. Dora Smith
    3. I am hoping someone can help me with what has happened to Rev. Schuyler Jenkins, of Glens Falls. He was an Episcopal minister and was once at the Church of the Messiah - I THINK, but he retired many years ago. I don't believe he stayed in contact with that church. He lived for many years at 82 Webster Ave. in Glens Falls, and is still listed there in Yahoo people finder phone lookup so he must have been there until very recently. When I just tried to call him, the phone was disconnected. I last spoke to him three years ago and at that time he seemed to be in very poor health. I would like to learn if he has died or where he has gone - or who is his heir, administrator or executor. Apparently it is no longer possible to lookup obits in the Post Star on line and I don't know how up to date that service ever was. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me. 1. looking for people who worked at Sandy Hill Paper Company 1930 - 1964 or lived on William St, Glens Falls.
    2. Dora Smith
    3. My grandfather, Allen Lowe, worked at Sandy Hill Paper Company, in Glens Falls. I think it is now International Paper. He was an engineer and I am pretty sure he was a member of the management. From what I saw as a little girl, in about 1963, he appeared to spend all of his waking life there. He would leave his separate bedroom first thing in the morning, my grandmother would ask him if he didn't want breakfast in her most gracious talking to a houseguest tones, he would grunt no or something and put on his hat and coat and leave, and he would come home late in the evening and go straight to his separate bedroom. I don't think he even often ate the formal supper my grandmother served herself and me with us. I would like to talk to anyone who worked at Sandy Hill before 1964, as they would be likely to have known him. Neighbors on William St might have known him, too, though it sounds rather more likely they would have known my more socially involved grandmother. I have contacted the paper mill, several years ago, whatever it is now, which I am pretty sure is International Paper, particularly as I'm also pretty sure the person I talked to had worked closely with a cousin of mine who also has worked there for some time. I was directed to that single individual and noone else I got through to would talk to me. He refused to be at all helpful. Possibly he just didn't want to be bothered, but my family do not tell family history and it has turned out that they have concealed things, and I have heard a story of a scandal early in my grandfather's career. 3. I am looking for anyone who knew my grandfather, Allen Lowe - and can tell me more specific things about him than that he was a fine man. He and his wife lived in Glens Falls, he worked for the paper mill in Glens Falls, and he died in 1964 of a heart attack. I was about eight at the time and knew him only slightly, and when I did see him, he kind of kept to himself. My mother and aunt have told me little about him. 1. POORHOUSE Information
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We just posted new links to information about poorhouse holdings at the website of the WARREN County Archives. They have posted name indexes to the admissions records 1855 - 1979 [These are the Inmate Registration Certificates which we have described elsewhere on the page.] ... (along with a photograph of the building!), and the burial permits 1911 - 1933, and information about death reports. They have done a wonderful job with their website! The link to Tom Lynch's great almshouse cemetery list has also been updated. DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on NEW YORK on the table of states, then on WARREN on the table of counties. (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)
