Hello Everyone, Recently have acquired some additional surnames to the VanWerts/VanWarts, originating from the Westchester & Putnam County areas, pertaining to marriages, places of birth, in addition to Ulster County NY. The newests additions I have capitalized/bold and hope that someone may have additional information to share. They too in some cases, come from the Westchester/Putnam County areas (SPECIFICALLY CHURCH, LENT & HITCHcOCK), listed as being their places of birth on their death transcripts obtained from the City of Kingston Registrar's office, Ulster County, New York. i. e. (Lake Mahopac) My grandfather was William H. VanWert m. to Effie Dudley. He died c. Jan. 1945 in Ulster County NY, she d. c. 1955 in Tarrytown, N.Y. at a relatives home, being: Honey & John Garrison. Recently have acquired her parents: DEWITT C. DUDLEY & EMILY GIMMELL from the Kingston Registrar's office. Effie Dudley's brother was: Oscar Dudley, b. 1879, d. 1966, Ulster County, m. to Edna ROOSA b. 1880, d. 1950 buried in Fairview Cemetery, Stone Ridge, NY, Ulster County. They were married Jan. 12, 1909, records of the Samsonville, NY Church (Sullivan County) resided at Tongore, NY (Olive/Olive Bridge, New York) Source Records of the Ul. Co. Genealogical Society, burial stones Fairview Cemetery, Stone Ridge, N.Y. and the marriage in "Diary" of "Helen Davis Marshall, 1905 - 1985, purchased at Hope Farm Press bookstore. In some reference materials, I've seen Dudley written as Dudrey/Dudry. William VanWert's Father: Charles H. VanWert Jr. married Lela CHURCH b. Nov. 26, 1868, d. May 22, 1924, Kingston, Ulster County, New York. Both parents buried in the Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston, New York. Charles H. VanWert Jr. was b. 1867, d. 1920. Burial source records published by the Ulster Co. Genealogical Society, as well as photos of gravestones, and copy of death transcript from Ulster County Registrar's office. Lela CHURCH Van Wert wife of Charles H. VanWert Jr. Her parents: Cyrus P. CHURCH, POBirth: Paterson, NY Her mother: Sarah Jane LENT, POBirth: Lake Mahopac, NY Source: Death transcript from the City Of Kingston, Registar's office, as well as photos of gravestones for VanWert. Father of Charles H. VanWert Jr., Charles H. VanWert Sr., b. Westchester County 1840, d. 1912 per death transcript. His mother is listed as being Anna M. or Margaret M. Hitchcock, who was also born in Westchester County, "Sing Sing, c. 1813. He was first married to ROSINA H. COLE b. 1842, d. 1864, and m. 2nd. to Margaret A. HUTTON, b. 1846, d. 1920. Although she died young, she is still a part of this family and sentimentally, want her to be! Although one's life may be brief upon this earth, they were here and they matter muchly to me.) Margaret A. Hutton's Parent's: JOHN HUTTON, POBirth: Ireland Mother: MARGARET DAUGHERTY, POBirth: Scotland. Charles H. VanWert Sr. father was Stephen VanWart. I have trace Stephan VanWart m. to Anna M. Hitchock (or Margaret Ann) from Sing Sing, to Rensselaer to Rondout, Wilbur, (Kingston, NY). In the 1865 Census Kingston, District #3, Rondout Village East: VanWart, Stephen, age 52, Occupation: Steamboat Capt., b. Westchester, wf/Anna M., age 43, b. Westchester 7ch: son Charles 26, do widr mx. 1 Engineer, 1 ch: Mary 3 b. UL grddaug., daug. Louisa 19 b. Westchester, Alice 15 b. NY, Frederick 13 b. Westchester, Frank 10 b. Westchester/grson. I do have have the information from G. MacKenzie's work pertains to a few families he researched, which I've already posted, including VanWert/Wart. Exception being: DeVoe which I shall do in the future. If anyone has information regarding "Sarah Jane Lent" I would be most appreciative, together with other information on Church and Hitchcock. I am more than willing to share whatever information I may have. I do aplogize for any cross posting as I'm doing, but I have no way of knowing who is on each list.
