    3. Marilyn Stern asked about pension records from the 30s and 40s. I'm not sure where she might find something. I would guess that the pension would have come from the county. Contact the Ulster County Hall of Records at (914) 340-3415 to see what kind of social service records might still exist. I'll warn you, your chances of finding such records will not be good. Social service records from this time period are pretty sparce. There was no incentive to keep these for the long term. A call to the Ulster County Social Services Department would also be a good idea, particularly if the Hall of Records is not able to help you. I can't locate a phone number, but the office would be in Kingston in the 914 area code. One final note, I commend Marilyn for doing her homework before heading north. I can't stress enough how important this can be. It will save you a lot of disappointment and the repositories some stress when they have to tell you they don't have what you need. Good luck.
