    3. -- [ From: Richard Frisbie * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] -- RE: Terwilliger list (and others) from Old Gravestones of Ulster County Dear Karl Hakmiller The Ulster County Genealogical Society - publishers of the book you bought from me and are excerpting online - did not give me (host NYGenWeb Ulster) permission to post the extensive lists you have been posting here. I would be more than happy (thrilled actually) to post this on my site if I had permission. But, because it affects the societies' income when I give away what they sell, courtesy prohibits my doing it without their permission. Have they given it to you? There are real issues of fair use involved here. Not-for-profit organizations, such as the Ulster County Genealogical Society, whose sole purpose is furthering genealogical research, receive much of the money to accomplish that research from the sales of their publications. Actions adversely affecting their income have a negative impact on their ability to carry on the research we expect from them. In effect, posting such publications here may help listmembers in the short term, but it definitely hurts us all in the long term. I suggest that you not post excessive excerpts from books that are in-print. I believe that the previous list owner addressed this in some quidelines. I know we communicated and the questionable posts stopped. She may be able to shed more light if you are not familiar with it.
